come to think of it I think I will print up this article and go to Borders then slip it in to books and magazines related to privacy issues.

It says in the article that the US Immigration and Naturalisation service already uses the technology, so it's probably pretty likely that it's in use elsewhere. I can't imagine this sort of security/imaging technology getting very far without the government being involved in its creation.

They also used this technology (or form thereof) during the last Super Bowl. Everyone who walked through the gates and into the stadium either became part of the database or were at least checked against it.

I can definitely see the advantages of such a technology (on the corporate/government side); being able to put a face to a name seems like the next step in enhancing the tracking of people and their actions. Seems that more than privacy is at stake here.

Actually saw this being tested by John Cleese on a program about the Face. He got around it by wearing Large Dark Glasses that obscured his cheek bones and Eyes - apparently the system works on measuring the facial features and measuring the distance between them.

Scarey stuff.

Would padding out your cheeks with cotton wool, wearing makeup around the eyes, a baseball cap with a big rim. Confuse the sytem then?
Also the more dependent orgainsations get on elecronic surveilance, the less likey they are to actually use pople to observe.
It's far easter to fool a machine such as a camera linked to a computer which uses logic. Than a human being who can make intuitive leaps.
