Can you solve this mystery?

So, a guy found some strange photos and wants help identifying them. Here's a link. Could it be some sort of medical thing?

Interesting. I don't get a "medical study" feeling from the photos at all. The fabric background, the clothing and even more so the accesories don't seem like elements of any kind of medical documentation. I also think it's really weird that so many people thought these were rhinoplasty candidates - talk about superimposing your cultural values on others - those girls all had perfectly normal, average noses.

I thought for a moment they might be records of girls being sold into prostitution, but on second thought I doubt it - they look well-dressed and possibly wealthy. The first girl is wearing what appears to be a silk ascot. There seems to be a strong family resemblace between many of them. Another odd possibility that occurred to me was maybe it was some private study of inbreeding in wealthy/aristocratic families? Or something else less exotic but still to do with familial/genetic relations.

This is indeed odd. To me none of the girls in the photographs appear to have any obvious "syndrome" (and i speak as one with a genetic and noticeable-if-you-know-what-it-is but not immediately visually obvious syndrome myself), and certainly not one that's common to all of them - they just look like a selection of ordinary (ie, not Hollywood-style unnaturally-beautiful) young women with not-very-flattering haircuts and photographed in harsh light. Admittedly large and slightly masculine-looking noses appear to be a bit of a theme, but the noses are all quite different, so i don't think rhinoplasty patients is a likely explanation...

It could have something to do with a eugenics programme. The second one looks mixed race, and a few of the others vaguely Southern European (immigrant?) - could the letters potentially be codes for racial/national origins? Disturbing implications, but i know lots of nasty shit of that type definitely did go down in America (and probably Britain too, tbh)...

They also seem to be various ages - some look about 12 to me, while others could be in their late 20s - but i'm always a hideously bad judge of age...

On a vaguely similar tip, there are some rather disturbing photos on this thread on the Fortean Times forum that look like an abandoned clinic or laboratory for some (potentially disturbing) purpose...

My first thought was some kind of religious cult; the woman at the bottom, not having the markings, being either the leader or the leader's first wife. That's why she gets the hat.

I don´t want us to find an explanation. That´s what I hate about movies, where in the end we get everything explained and cleared up. It´s much more interesting to wonder what it might be. The real reason is probably boring or banal.
