'300' the movie

I bought the first issue of this miniseries ages ago cause the artwork looking fantastic, but never managed to get it together to buy the other issues, a source of great disappointment whenever I re-read #1...

But maybe I won't need to track them down, cause suddenly they're making a film?! I was happy to see that Millar is an executive producer (i.e. involved somehow), and that there are no A-list celeb actors involved. Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead 2004) is directing and scripting.

Has anyone read the book, studied the history, or been following the movie development? I understand this isn't one of Millar's most lauded works? I have to say the artwork on the website looks good, it might just make an entertaining, atmospheric film...:

You really should go out and get yourself the hardcover of 300. It's in an extra wide format. Each page is wider than a typical double page spread. It's a very enjoyable read.

Um should we move this thread to film or focus on the book?

Well, seeing as this thread is called '300' the movie, I'm gonna put in a request for it to be moved to the appropriate forum.

This could be good- it certainly has the potential, and given the success of Sin City, they're probably not gonna be too averse to chucking a fair bit of cash at it.

It's one of my favourite Miller comics- also one of my favourite stories from Greek history. Miller gets to do his whole Nietzschean thing in a story that's tailor-made for it. I'd love to see it.

Incidentally, I caught the beginning of an earlier telling, "The 300 Spartans" on telly the other afternoon, but had to go to bed as I was on a nightshift. Is it worth picking up the DVD?

I considered starting it in Film, but I'd like to find out more about the comic really. Can we see which way it drifts?

I found a short (crap) review by a historian here. It seems there was a movie and comic in the early 60s also. Did anyone else get childhood history lessons from comic books? Maybe this is why I like 300 so much - I grew up with Asterix, and several real History-in-Comicbook type books.

Also, is 300 the comic book with the most bare nipples ever?

There are at least 600 nipples shown at various times, as I remember... and that's just the Spartans'.

Gah, it took me half an hour to write that post?! Damn Apple trailer site...

Well, I'd like to see what people think of a non-superhero comicbook translation to movies too, given Hollywood's past few years of Marvel-lovin'. Has it ever been done successfully for a non-"mainstream" comic?

I know I sound like a grumpenhead, but no we can't.

If you want the title and the abstract changed to something more appropriate to this forum just say the word.

The comic forum, I mean.

Non-mainstream comics adaptation successes include 'Road to Perdition' and 'History of Violence' just in the last few years. I'm sure there are others. 'Sin City' itself couldn't have done too badly, and that's not entirely a superhero deal. Not entirely.

Looks like the HD trailer for 300 is up now. Looking good...

Which is odd, because I found this effort in the HMV sale yesterday and I'm just off to watch it now.

So... Yay.

Gerard Butler is Brian Blessed as Bernard Hill in "Scarface"!

And such a mighty beard...

Anyway, Brazilian great young actor (and "hunk") Rodrigo Santoro is playing Xerxes, so it's another reason to see what should be known someday as "Sin City in pastel colors"

Inspired by the trailer I've just started reading the comic again- and godDAMN if Leonidas' voice in my head doesn't still sound like Sean Connery, despite having heard the movie one now.
