Sources in the industry ( eg. Mae Wan Ho ) tell us that the biotecs, who love to give the impression of being 23rd century black labs, are as human as the rest of us ( ie. decreasing by the hour ). They spill pretty hot materials on a regular basis. Genetic researcers field testing crops ( hee hee ) can usually see the modified genes leaving the experiment in microorganisms, and cropping up ( hee hee ) in the local biosphere.
Anyone know that most genetic tweeks involve engineering an existing disease virus ? Diseases are great at absorbing new genetic code from each other. It makes individuals quite unstable, but as species they explore every avenue of changing their identity, like the common cold, to avoid immunogens etc; and virii are masters at invading living cells & implanting new genetic sequences, usually resulting in disease. Genetecs utilise these tendencies by engineering existing diseases to become transpecies viruses, to absorb new code ( eg dog bladder ) and carry them into the mouse gene. Ho also claims that these altered diseases regularly escape the lab. And like most virii, they freely swap genes with other individuals, attempting the common cold disguise trick, and quickly pass on the artificial sequences into the biosphere.
It's like saying to a disease,
" Here, take this ... it may be useful if you, 'the master of unlocking', could use it ..."
