Hey people. Some acquaintances of mine are desperately looking for some 110v power converters that they can borrow/hire for this coming Saturday night (the 10th). I don't suppose anyone in or around London would have such a thing(s)?

I'm guessing you mean this sort of thing. I don't have any myself I'm afraid, but they're reasonably cheap to buy. Do you know what exactly they need, and what for?

Cheers. I'm aware that they cause rot, however...

Power converters? I understand you can get those at Tashi Station.

*bump*

Slightly desperate here. Can anyone with online access please get a journal article for me, as my uni doesn't subscribe and I need it asap (interlibrary loans are expected to take up to a week?

It's this one below:

Storkus, W. J., Zeh, H. J. d., Salter, R. D., and Lotze, M. T. (1993) Identification of T-cell epitopes: Rapid isolation of class I-presented peptides from viable cells by mild acid elution. Journal of Immunotherapy*. 14, 94 –103.

I'd be very grateful to anyone who can lay their electronic hands on it, and would be happy to return the favour should there be any articles they need access to, or any other favours I'm capable of paying.

* Sometimes the Journal is listed as "Journal of Immunotherapy with Emphasis on Tumour Immunology" - though I'm not sure if this is a seperate, short-lived journal or merely a temporary name change.

Oh, hold on, that's just a summary.

Yeah, I can't find anything other than summaries. Not used to searching for academic journals and wotnot.

By the way, thanks for the tent, Mice. Gonna collect it from the post office tomorrow morning. Huzzah!

A kindly volunteer has PM'd me, and shall be supplied with a pint or some sort of cakey reward should we ever meet in person. Thankyou mysterious stranger!

Boboss - excellent. Hope you have a good weekend, tent erecting instructions being PM'd now.

Alas, the saga continues! My good volunteer has confused their journals and cannot supply me with the paper required.

Can any other good barbeloid provide the article I need?

I'll have to leave this public computer room soon, but I can maybe try and do this tomorrow. Is it very illegal?

jentacular dreams
15:44 / 23.08.07
I don't think it's very illegal. I'd think that it's much like an inter library loan, where when possible they will often supply you with a pdf which is encoded so as to only allow printing once. But please don't do anything which would make you feel uncomfortable Allecto. If absolutely necessary I can visit the british library next time I can make it back to london, but that won't be for about a month and I'd really like it before then.

Anyone know where I might find myself a copy of the film Stalker

You could join an online DVD rental thingy. They tend to have huge libraries, at least in my experience (note that I live in the UK).

GarbageGnome

I tried that once, and wouldn't ya know it? The cretins at blockbuster online don't have obscure Russian films lol. I think I'll try ordering it from Russia through a pal of mine in St. Petersburg, he might have more luck. I was just gunna see if I could get a download or something.

This link should work. Though I'm computationally retarded and straining my higher education's institutional reach using one of the several affably generous, so there might be some hidden online subscription that omits itself from my browsing. Soooo googled.

GarbageGnome: Do you want Stalker just to see, or to buy? It's not exactly hard to find anymore, haviong been rereleased on DVD just a couple of years ago. Amazon's got it for 25 bucks, and you can rent it through Netflix.

Or you could always try your local library system, for free.

GarbageGnome
17:35 / 23.08.07
Honestly I wanted to try the old rent and then buy if its good tactic, cept I don't have a Netflix account, I'll have to see if a friend has one. Thanks though, I didn't know if they would carry it.

Jack Fear
17:38 / 23.08.07
Oh yeah. Huge selection is the primary reason why Netflix has been cleaning Blockbuster's clock in the marketplace.

GarbageGnome
17:49 / 23.08.07
Shit if thats true I'll join up, my biggest problem with Blockbuster is a lack of titles.

And if you've seen the Stalker movie, was it any good? I'm really hoping its like the book "Roadside Picnic" which I'm also going to buy someday. Gotta love post-apocolyptic philosophy lol.

Jack Fear

Not so much like the book, from what I've heard.

Was it any good? Well...

Thanks Gendude, I should really have had a look at how far back online access goes before I posted the request. Seems J of Immunotherapy only do online access to around 2000 so it looks like a hard copy is the only way forward.

British Library here I come....

Yeah, I looked at the spoiler, guess I'll save a bundle of time and not bother with the film and go with the book.

Has Tarkovsky done any other work that is interesting?

Jack Fear
18:41 / 23.08.07
I loved loved loved Andrei Rublev, but Solaris literally put me to sleep.

Old threads about Tarkovsky hither, thither, and yon, BTW.

Glad to help. Not so sure why webpages self archiving only goes back to 2000, though it's just another reason to score one for google.
