Rollercoasters

Damn. I went to Cedar Point in Ohio for the first time in yeaaaaars, and now I'm convinced that rollercoasters, particularly The Raptor, are the coolest thing EVAR!

I'm curious about non-American perceptions and experiences with rollercoasters, because I might be wrong, but aren't they primarily an American thing? Are there amusement parks with gravity defying metal behemoths outside of the US? Genuinely curious.

As long as they're the older style coasters, all wood tracks and giant swells, they're fine by me. All the new installments with loop-the-loops and whatnot just don't cut it, the ride is just a confused stream of blurred impressions of scenery and the seat banging into your ears.

the wood tracks ones tend to bounce you around a lot more. they are pretty painful in comparision to the newer ones.

The Raptor is a sit-down one, but it dangles from the top and has no floor, so your feet hang down and you can see below you. Sitting in the front row of this one makes you feel like you are flying like Superman. you do some loops and some sideways flying and it's fairly long. totally intense superhero flying fun to me.

At the top of Oblivion at Alton Towers, I really did think I was about to die. The trick is that it stops just before the near-verticle drop, to give you a moment to think about what's about to happen, and how you're probably not going to survive. You look down and you see this:

And then...

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Oblivion is the only ride that really properly makes me scared.

Ewww. That drop...

But it's still kind fun

Nemesis is one of my favourites - it sounds pretty similar to the Raptor - dangly seat things. It's damned crazy as a rid tho. I like that someone once died of a heart attack after riding it.

Air is pretty amazing. Strapped into dangly seats that then tilt so you're parallel to the ground, facing down. You then float around on one of the smoothest and quietest tracks ever. Loops and stuff. The whole trick is that you're supported in your seat, so you can just fully let go and do the whole superman thing. Tacky, but it really does feel like you're flying. If you get to go on the front row, that is.

"Rita - Queen of Speed" Is fucking ridiculous. 0-100 Mph in 2.5 seconds. Weird booster things that snap your neck off. Random loops and ouch. My head just fell off. Fun though.

I've never really been on any rides other than those at alton towers, but I'm pretty happy with the ones there...

wow. Oblivion looks amazingly cool. It's sort of like Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point, but without the hole. It gets up to 120mph in 4 seconds. I confess I was too scared to get on that one.

The Mantis is also cool. It's a standing one that does loops and whatnot. Totally insane.

We have The Raptor here at Alton Towers, Keith, but we call it "Air". Arms out in front the Supes theme has to be hummed.

Ha, fuck Oblivion, in Australia we have the (cleverly named) Giant Drop, which is listed in the Guiness Book of Records as the tallest such ride in the world. It took so long to fall all the way down that I kind of stopped screaming for a bit and had a bit of a think along the lines of, 'geez, it's hard to know what to do with my legs in this situation', and then started screaming again before I hit the ground.

I FUCKING LOVE ROLLERCOASTERS!

Roller Coasters are the Shiz-Nite.

...

That's all I really have to add to the conversation at this point. Except now I want to go ride a roller coaster.

Ride a rollercoaster you say? In your own room you say? Impossible, you say?

No, sirrah!

It is entirely possible. WIth this program. (Trial download goes for 15 days.)

I've been playing around with it and it is teh awesom3. However, you will feel like you should be wearing a parka.
