I might get a ferret

I'm moving to a new house in about a month and I'm allowed pets. I may get a ferret. I have read all about them on their wikipedia page and several FAQs. They are friendly and inquisitive.

Does this sound like a good idea? Where do you think I should get one from if I'm in the north west UK?

Please get one that I may have a vicarious part-share. It could be the Barbelith ferret! Like the Blue Peter dog, for all of us who can't have a little ginger bugger weaving around the house and smelling of armpit.

(If it does smell, wash the bedding more and the ferret less. Apprently.)

Ferrets require a lot of attention. They are very smart, and they suffer if they get bored. And if they are suffering, they make you suffer. So if you are finking about a fewwet, either fink about spending a lot of time with it, or fink about two.

The problem with two ferrets is that then people think of you as "that ferret person" and bring you more. And more. And then you have fourteen fewwets. And while two fewwets are half the trouble of one, because they keep each other entertained, fourteen fewwets are at least forty nine times the trouble of one. Trust me. I base this on direct observation, assisted by my troublometer.

Get a ferret. There is much ferret love here at Barbelith.

Remember: A ferret's not just for Christmas...

Not much meat on the fuckers for one thing. And they nip when you stuff 'em.

I have a couple friends who own ferrets. They all smell the same way: a very sweet and sharp odor. But, they're very fun to play with on the floor (the ferrets, I mean).

You don't get a ferret, Legba. A ferret gets you.

We should invent a version of paper-rock-scisors with ferrets, honey badgers, and kittens...

Would these be Evil Kittens?

I wanted a ferret but then I realized I'd have to name it either Kodo or Podo, I just couldnt stop myself.
And that would be wrong.

Does anyone know what a decent price would be to pay per animal? Is there any sort of standard I should be looking out for? I probably could find this out on t'web, but I like you people.

Ferrets VS Fake Ferret

But if we include honey badgers, ferrets, and kittens, then Deva would introduce "baby bunny" as the trump of all.

Would these be Evil Kittens?

Evidently. Giant evil kittens, if we can catch'em.

Ah, the Giant Evil Kittens. Kitten Kong. Catzilla. We've been there before. Blame The Goodies (Goodie, Goodie, Yum Yum...)

Presumably ferrets are just fennecs with sub-standard PR.

And different consonants.

Not stackable either.

Admittedly, I'm in favour of the less structured approach but that is NOT A STACK! qed.

Ferrets seem to be interlocking on angles, whereas fennecs stack easily for storage.

First of all, that IS A STACK. Cheddar.

Secondly, "a ferret can fit into a space 2 inches square" (The Ferret FAQ). Easy storage? Yes.

Their use of space is chaotic and wasteful, to judge by the photo above, so I think you should exercise caution in interpreting the Ferret FAQ. You might get a plump ferret that's not bendy enough to compact down, Legba, and they're ferrets and they need to be loved, just like everybody else does.

Oh sure. I wasn't intending to squeeze them anywhere. Also I think the operative word in the 2" by 2" thing might be "through" rather than "into". Hence I will ferretproof my home, or at least the parts where they'll be.

Oh and, er, something something, Smiths reference etc
