Milligans J.L.A. Amazo.

I've been wondering recently what happened to the much publicised Peter Milligans J.L.A. hardback graphic novel. It was publicised and pages were released in flyer adverts and then...zip. Zilch. Nothing. Nada.

Anyway it's due to show in the J.L.A. Classified title after the J.L.Detroit story, and that doesn't start til after the currect arc. It's listed as being 5 issues long.

What I'm wondering is...what the dilly happened to the graphic novel, why is it in this format, why the delay?

From what I remember, DC canceled it after it was solicited due to lack of interest. I guess they are going to try again in an on going series with a different artist.

Fair enough. I mean, they've paid for the script after all. Shame that the series has become a home for other projects though, that'll be only one story commisioned by the series editor so far...Morrison, Giffen/DaMatteis, Milligan, and Ennis' stories all being from other sources.

I'm sure they can live with publishing the work of such acclaimed cast-offs...

I thought that was the point of the series, wasn't it?

Aaaaand DC's gone and shelved/delayed it *again,* replacing the Classified arc with one by Chaykin and vowing to resolicit Kid Amazo at a later date.

What!? This is an outrage!

From either a business or editorial vantage-point, why would DC not publish something that's already finished and paid-for? There's the group that buys anything JLA, or even anything DCU. They don't care who writes or draws it. Add to that people who buy Milligan, but wouldn't otherwise touch a JLA book (err, except Morrison). Maybe I'm just stupid blind non-business guy, but what am I missing?

And didn't I hear something about a new ongoing from Wildstorm? I imagine that's canned, too. God hates Milligan. Milligan fans, at least.

Possibly written and drawn twice, now, innit? Can't remember that since the 'Satana' mini at Marvel. You think costs would drive them to pump it out, even at a low print run, just to justify.

And it's Milligan, dammit. How bad could it be?

(I liked his 'Elektra', so...)

Do we know it's done already? One of the things that Steve Englehart said when asked abotu his JLA Classified arc was that it was done and ready to go about a year ago, and they are building up a big inventory so that they don't have to worry about the book being late.

I have this horrible fear that this is still going to be the original 96 page script redrawn to fill five whole issues, by inserting lots of pointless dialogue free splash pages, in order for DC to drain more money off of us. I hope i'm wrong about this, but I reallt don't think I will be.

It's probably not the best thing evarrr, but I doubt that.

Pete Milligan? Shit?

...actually, I read Catwoman Defiant recently, and that was a bit shit.
