Geoff Johns' Doom Patrol

Teen Titans #36 sheds an interesting light on the post-Infinite-Crisis Doom Patrol. Apparently...everything (excluding the issues that were labeled Vertigo, I'm guessing?), including the Byrne run, happened. All of it. They all remember everything...Caulder's betrayal, deaths, rebirth. There is a portrait gallery featuring Dorothy Spinner, a trophy room featuring theh Quiz's costume, a portrait of Mr Nobody, and a painting(?) of Danny the World and Crazy Jane on the floor. Also, there was a reference to the painting from the Dada group's attempt to suck Paris into it. Oh yeah, and Mento is back.

The whole group is written well, in my opinion, and there's a clear sense that despite their "forgiveness" for Caulder having "created" all the member's origins and disasters, Caulder's still written as a class A manipulative bastard. For the first time since OYL, I'm actually giddy to read Teen Titans...can't wait to see more.

So, if anyone is considering checking out this re-incarnation, I'd recommend it. I just wont pay your $2.99 if you hate it.

p.s. I'll be sending in a recommendation to DC to make their post-IC slogan "It all happened. Really. at the same time. Even the silly shit."

It is interesting to see Johns try to shoehorn Morrisonian-style comments/DP references into his decidedly non-Morrisonian style. Johns has repeatedly stated how much he loves Morrison's work and esp. his DP run.

The DC Vertigo panel at the Philly con recently mentioned (via Newsarama's reporting):

>> The Doom Patrol's Vertigo years will be folded into the DCU version of the team, both by Grant Morrison himself in 52, and by Geoff Johns in the current Teen Titans arc.

So there will be a little more of Morrison's DP showing up besides just the recent Teen Titans issue.

I really liked the DP's appearance in Titans, possibly b/c I'm finally reading the original run in archive format. I thought that Johns nailed their tone nicely: grumpy, odd, outsiders etc. And the GM/Vertigo nods were great too. It'd be nice to see a mini, maxi or series with GJ at the helm.
