This morning, Indonesia was hit with another earthquake. Here's how John Bud of UNICEF described it on NPR.
"A real disaster zone. 10% of all the buildings in that area have been damaged. We have 4000 houses that have been destroyed and we have one hospital and six health centers that have also been knocked down."
I heard that about 3000 people have died, but this number may change over the next few days.
I propose that we make some commitments here in this thread to give to charitable organizations to help this situation. And that we also consider continuing to give if more natural disasters strike this year.
In addition, I suggest that the magically inclined work on a spell or a prayer for the victims in Indonesia (now) and elsewhere (later).
If I had more money, I might suggest a kind of money-matching scheme (if ten people give $100, I'll give this much and so on). Unfortunately, I'm probably going to have to max out at about $75, at least this month, so this won't do, but I'd bet that working together, we can make a significant contribution.
