Well, after vacination and chest x-rays, the fine mods of Barbelith have finally approved my request to join…or was that the INS?

Anyhow. Hi all. I'm a dutch expat living in Chicago, I work as a senior graphic designer/lead developer at Thirst. I've been involved with many an online community in the past (originally Swanky.org, one of the first design/writing communities) and I can safely say I've ruined them all. Er, I mean…

I've been a comic book nerd since I was 10, starting out with dutch X-men and Transformers books, upgrading to US imports at age 12, and I've had an empty wallet and a filled bookshelf ever since. I'm also a big fan of music every where I go, watch a lot of TV, love movies, and basically don't get out much.

Looks like they might have approved a batch of us this morning because I just got my welcome/invitation too

Rather than start a new thread, I'll just introduce myself here. I'm living in Chicago right now and I'm one of the 2 founders of skinnyCorp. Our most popular project is Threadless. I scored my first job as a web developer when I was 16 back in 1996 working for a local ISP in my hometown.

Anyway if you really want to know more about me, take a look at my site http://www.jakenickell.com

I plan to make a Barbedonation at the end of the month.

Welcome all Midwestern graphic designers! Please tell me if you're hiring! Before I move to Austin or Phoenix.

Hey ho, I'm a part of this mid-May batch, too.

Anyway, I am studying Journalism and Media Studies at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic and I consider myself as a publicist (writing mostly on new media culture) for the nationwide Literary Newspaper (http://literarky.cz) and curator (especially for the czech new media festival ZOOM,
http://bzoom.org).

See my modest website at http://palofabus.net
Palo Fabuš is my meatspace name

Yay for Brno, by all accounts a great university sadly overlooked by most people visiting the Czech Republic...

Well, I seem to be part of the wave of fresh meat.

I'm from New Hampshire, which is currently flooded, and I'll be majoring in Journalism at Northern Essex (shit school, I'm transferring somewhere respectable as soon as I can) this coming September. Deep down inside, I think I really hope this career will somehow transform me into Hunter Thompson.

My blog is A Thousand Monkeys , which I share with a good friend of mine. Read it, and be blessed. I have maybe three dedicated readers these days as it is.

Well, maybe at this time. By AFAIK the Charles Univesity in Prague is becoming too rigorous to compete with MU's dynamic growth. But maybe it's just a naive appraisal of my alma mater.

eerie Try the Temple sometime.. we'll show you eerie.

Welcome new people! Don't feel it's essential to start a new thread to introduce yourself, just pile into the threads you're interested in and we'll get to know you soon enough.

Hey everyone. I too just joined today.. brilliant. Been looking for a nice board to join since Al Gore's conception of the internet.

I'm a Malaysian law student, graduated from England and am currently waiting to complete my professional exams before joining the Bar.

Nice to see ya to see ya nice.

Hello! It is very nice to see you all here.

A tiny plea is to ask you to format your links in html (there's a handy link to the wiki from the 'reply' page to any thread you post on, which will tell you how to do this), to save moderators doing it for you...

This has been a welcome message from the Sekrit Mod Police.

More fresh meat here.

I am a jewlelry maker and aspiring novelist. I have two small Children and I live with someone who is already a poster here. I'll leave it up to him if he wants to identify himself.

I live in Aberdeen, Scotland. And that's about all I have to say for the moment.

Hi Phallicus, nice to meet ya. I just want to say I know the feeling, but Hunter Thompsons are not made, they are born (once at each generation, like vampire-slayers). Anyways, good luck. (btw, cool blog)

and hi to everybody else I haven't meet yet

Hey, appallingly lame references are like the glue that holds Barbelith's secret beard to its face, Illmatic.

And, I mean, the face without the beard is crying.

You want Barbelith to cry don't you?
DON'T YOU?

Hey - also got in with the Tuesday morning batch... thanks Nina and Tom. I'm a geneticist working in Cardiff, Wales.

I've been lurking the web since 1993, wondering if each new message board is going to be the one. Happy to be here.. the pastel colours are very soothing.

Yes, I'm still waiting for the journalistic second coming.
Hell, I even have the Gonzo sword tattooed on my arm.

Hello. that's strange, i too am a resident of Aberdeen, Scotland. another one of these yins that speaks in hushed tones of unutterable orange drinks made from iron and such delicacies as the dreaded black bun.
i'm just finishing up a degree in fine art after which i will be returning to Edinburgh; the land of my birth.
Big thanks to tom and the checkers for doing such a stirling job btw.
