The wonder that is Westwood

Well, I'll probably change the title in a bit. "Westwood" is not a sexual preference, nor should it ever be. This thread is for celebrating the glories of Britain's greatest DJ.

What other 45 year old, son of a Bishop could say this:

As a club DJ I rock bangers that create crazy excitement in the party. The orginal was a hood classic - so big they made me a special - a revoiced version dedicated to me. Shit is straight banging ATL trap music meets JA shottas. It's an ugly situation.

To keep this thread going means Im going to have to listen to the Big Dawg regularly again, and watch Pimp My Ridewhich is no bad thing. Post your Westwoodisms here.

Who can forget the classic:

"Hey, what are you doing with that gun? ARGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I've been fucking shot!"

Some of his best work ever.

Unknown:
Straight out the back door baybee

Westwood:
Straight out the backside. Fo real!

Change the title to Westworld perhaps, even the thought that someone might think he's a sexual anything makes me feel sick.
Have you seen pimpmysnack.com where they make metre-long Lion bars an' shit? Word dog, it's the mack daddy for wack snack attacks. Jah, tru, bludclart etc. (sorry, I haven't heard enough Westwood to mock his style effectively as I suffer from a condition akin to Tourettes that forces me to smash any radio he's on with a lump hammer while screaming in pure animal rage)

Does he still play the explosion sound effect every four seconds?

Yes.

I love Westwood. He the frist DJ i ever listened to regularly, about 20 years ago. Someone in the blogsphere last year was saying him and Brian Sewell should receive OBEs just because of the fantastic, lunatic passion.

I think his Halfords adverts were some of his best work.

Mannerisms aside, what's his actual DJ-ing like?

Erm, I saw him in Dundee a few years back - almost by accident - and can report he does the explosions live, but there was an awful, awful lot of scratching and cutting. Made it hard to get a groove on.

That's not a strong look.

Westwood famously cannot do any of the proper hip hop DJing stuff ("turntablism", it's a SCIENCE etc.), in fact he's not even the greatest beat-matcher in the world. What he does is he gives the people what they want. He plays the big hits, he rewinds the big hits, he plays the explosion noise over the big hits. It can sort of work in context, I guess.

I actually got quite drunk and fed up, left venue a bit early, which was uncharacteristic back in the day.

But I do love Tim; still have him on tape doing that hip-hop/martial arts prog - "this is the new video from Ghostface, in the magna cartoon style"...
