Cybernations

Tom Paine's Bones

Has anyone else come across this? I've only just started playing, but from what I can tell Cybernations seems to be a more complex version of Nationstates. It has trade, war and things like that.

As I said, it's early days, but I'm liking it so far. It reminds me of the stuff I liked originally with Nationstates, but it looks to have more too it, so I'm hoping I won't get bored so quickly. It's a lot less complicated than it appears at first glance as well.

I just formed the Revolutionary Nation of Barbelith in SE Austria... It seems a lot better than Nation States. Just having a spot on a map of the world is great... as well as being able to expand.

I just wish now I formed my county in the middle east where the seems to be LOTS of room...

What nation are you? Want a trade agreement?

Excellent, I'm the nation of Tooting. I can offer rubber or cattle if you're interested. (Apparently you also get a happiness bonus for trading with members of your own team- I'm red).

Oh, and apparently the map placement is just cosmetic- it doesn't actually make any difference to being able to expand.

I have set up the nation of Shaded Pines, a Republic of British Hindus. I can offer water or wine for trade.

As a side note, why is it I get sucked into every bloody online game going? I played Urban Dead, Cthulu Nation, a bit of Kingdom of Loathing... I'm a sucker. Maybe.

And so the Republic of Much Love is begun. I am red teamed and armed with furs and gold. Situated on the small, beautiful archipelago of Tonga. Feel free to stop by and enjoy a coconut or perhaps some more peristalsis defying chunks of dried coral "mmm mmm"...

Say hello to New Gotham (formerly New York), which has seceded from the U.S... and we kinda suck right now. We're on the Red team and could probably trade pigs and cans.

The nation of Otherworld, capital Carterhaugh, stands ready to assist the Red team. The Starflaming Queen was a little disconcerted to find her minions quarrying Iron, but gratified to find they'd also supplied Marble in great quantity.

So, generally, are we planning to build a Barbeloid alliance of utopian socialism and prosperity?

Or shall we just nuke the first fucker who looks at us funny?

It's nice and reassuring to see that the game places such a high emphasis on nukes as an indicator of status.

My people are so wonderfully happy; I have brought them gold, furs, gems and sugar and in return they have all become small bouncing spheres of toothy euphoria:

If you select the apparently blank space next to your populous’ emoticon you can see a more quantitative measure of their joy, at the moment mine is 13.9.

My people are also currently subtly suggesting they’d rather be Hindu monarchists than be the religiously open minded and endlessly tolerant liberals I had planned. Never mind eh?

I have created New Hala, and I, Elijah The Prophet, am their benevolent ruler.

I currently have Marble and Coal for export and am on the red team.

What impresses me is that I now have 35 soldiers, or, more accurately, 1 for every 3 people living in Shaded Pines. However, I've deployed 15 of them overseas, mainly so they can get suntans without actually shooting anything.

There's also the fact that my nation encompasses, apparently, the entirety of Mortimer West End on the map, but is slowly encroaching onto Padworth and Ufton Nervet...

I find it interesting looking at other people's nations to see what government stances they've chosen. I'm trying to decide whether it's safe to draw any conclusions from them, given that a) people could be rol-e-playing, and choosing a stance different from their own, or b) people could be powergaming and choosing the stances they think will do them good, regardless of whether that is interesting or even effective; viz the advice given on the Green Team's bulletin board "taxes don't matter, slap em 'up as high as they go!" - I'm doing better with low taxes than high; but I get the general feeling that a depressing number of people are just plonking for whatever they think will give their pet facist Reich some mythical win.

Not, of course, that it matters in the least.

That's quite interesting, Startstruck (note- I'm not actually playing this game... yet...)- to what degree is it actually depressing when people do bad stuff to win games? Maybe this is best for a thread of its own if anyone's interested. Personally, when playing games where your morality is an issue, I generally try to be good. Most people I know go the other way because it's more fun for the roleplaying, and can get you some cool bonuses and stuff like that.

(With KOTOR, I tried to act as I would in real life- it was nice, though somewhat useless, to know that, according to LucasArts, I'm much more a light side than a dark side type of guy).

I'm not mocking or disagreeing with your position, Starstruck- I'm genuinely interested because I often find myself feeling the same way and am constantly trying to figure out why.

I'll start a thread for it, Stoat.

Done it - I'm afraid it's a bit long-winded, I hope it addresses the point you were thinking of!

I tried having a Taoist/Revolutionary Goverment nation, but my people wanted a Capitalist / Voodoo one... ah well.

Must follow the will of the people...

The nation of Tooting is no more!

Because I'm getting involved in some off site politics and the old concept didn't fit. If anybody is interested in joining a shadowy criminal network let me know, but shhhh!

(Sorry to anybody who had trade agreements with Tooting. Mackler inc can offer coal and silver if anyone needs it).

I tried being a Hindu Democracy, but my people desired a Jewish Republic.

I've also just purchased my first technology, so I'm a happy enough bunny...

Oh shit. Another game to take up my life. From Urban Dead to this - I'm the ruler of Gluevania in Canada. That's about all I've worked out at the minute.

Not sure if I'm fond of having the game randomly select a 'preferred' religion and government of the people. This tends to lead to players choosing what their citizens want for added happiness and ranking overall, and hence less role-playing. Of course, you could choose to ignore the people and pretty much decide on what you...hey wait a minute. This sounds familiar..

Anarchy (Next Available Change 6/18/2006)
Your people approve of this form of government but the majority of your people would prefer something else. They desire a government that will invest heavily in business ventures.

Strange, but true...

I finally got enough people and money to get my first improvement! Woo!

AND thanks to some fortunate events, my people have enough extra happiness that I could raise my tax rate to 25% without a murmur!
