I wonder if this is just something that is unique to me, or whether it it happens to others. I find that often, I feel this terrible sadness about things that I hear about in passing but never get to know more fully. The same goes for people, when I meet somebody at a party, knowing fullwell that I'm never going to see them again, it truly depresses me. Is this something that happens to you?

T, why the Headshop? This looks like a Convo thread to me.

I felt sad, when I saw a stuffed Dodo in the Natural History Museum in Paris. I´ve read, that these creatures were really trusting and harmless, somehow like penguins. And they were extinct real soon after they were discovered.

Now, we´ll never know, how Dodos are in real life. And there are thousands of other animals, we´ll never see walking or slithering or hopping the earth again.

I really pisses me off the Spanish Conquistadores burned all those books when they defeated the Aztecs.

And all those lost Greek plays and books...

aw, well

the loss of the library at alexandria makes my brain itch.
i wonder what we might be if not for the fervent folly of fundamentalist freaks.

occasionally i realise that the knowledge might have hastened our race into the never-again, but usually i'm optimistic about what we talking monkeys can do with book smarts.
perhaps the little knowledge our world has is that proverbial dangerous thing, and maybe our species would have been chilling with the time worms by now if we'd had a full set.

that's the really annoying thing; you can never really know for sure what we lost.

A fragment of conversation. And being on a train at night, passing lit windows and never being able to know who each person is, what they hope for, what they're terrified of. What they might be able to tell me. To piss off for looking through their windows, most likely.

I second that Library of Alexandria bit. Also, I get irritated when I dream (infrequent as it is) and I have some craz revolation in the dream and wake up remembering that I had it, but not what it was.
