Harry Potter Film Rumours

I don't know if this reliable as of yet, but I keep hearing that Terry Gilliam signed on to direct the sixth film. So far, I can find no concrete evidence--which doesn't preclude it from being true.

I did, however, find this.

I'll post what I can find of the upcoming fifth movie.

There was meant to be a link to the Wikipedia entry for the sixth film, but as usual, Wikipedia has screwed me over again. Sorry.

Rumor already quashed by Warner Bros.

Probably all for the best, really, if they want the movie on time and under budget. Screw art—this is a multi-million-dollar property with a lot of stakeholders, and the cardinal rule of hiring caretakers of such is: don't break the franchise.

Better to hire sturdy, workmanlike, literal-minded directors to make sturdy, workmanlike, literal-minded films. You know. In keeping with the spirit of the books.

I heard a rumour that in the next Harry Potter movie, there might be some magic. Let's boycott this picture because fictional depictions of secular magic leads children to Satan, drugs, and orgies. All of which are inherently evil.

Oh yeah, completely evil.

Last night, at an art opening, I found myself chatting up a 24-year-old guy because he looked like Robert Pattinson.

I have a dirty, dirty mind.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Deathly Hallows will be released in two parts. I would have thought this will turn out to be not true, if they can hack Goblet and Phoenix down to the required time they can do it with Deathly Hallows, a lot of it is just Harry and Hermione walking round in circles after all.

I'd prefer done in one, even with a long length, but I imagine the studio must be salavating at the possibility of THREE more Potter movies rather than a "mere" two. There was also speculation that GOF was going to be two parts at some point.

And I wish Gilliam could do HALLOWS...

I did read that Guillermo del Toro is very interested in directing the final film(s). Very interesting prospect, that...

The two-parts rumor is looking official.

"It was born out of purely creative reasons," producer David Heyman told the Times.

"Also, these movies make MAD FUCKING CASH! Can you blame a guy for wanting to go back to the well one more time?"

"Unlike every other book, you cannot remove elements of this book."

Unfortunately, this is true, as Rowling insisted on stuffing HALLOWS with the payoffs to every single mystery introduced in the books, in true detective-story fashion, where a better writer might have parcelled out the reveals more effectively throughout the series. HALLOWS had its moments as I was reading it, but looking back on it, it boils down to a rather wearying series of A-HA DO YOU SEE moments.
