A Series of Talks with Gaylon Ferguson

Acharya Gaylon Ferguson is a senior teacher in the lineage of Shambhala Buddhism As an undergraduate at Yale University he encountered D.T. Suzuki who confirmed "that it's not possible to learn Buddhist meditation entirely from a book.". In 1994, he was a Fulbright Fellow to Nigeria and completed a doctoral degree in cultural anthropology from Stanford University. Through 2004 he was a teacher in residence at Karme Choling. Gaylon is known for his teachings on diversity and his engaging presentation of Shambhala Buddhism.

Supplication to the Shambhala Lineage Chant
Monday May 29, 31st & June 2nd at 7:30 pm
$25 per class / $20 for members and pre registration

What is unique about Shambhala? What is our mission in this world and how can we apply the teachings of our spiritual ancestors in the context of everyday life? How can we view the wisdom traditions of the past as applicable to our aspirations in the present? By connecting with our Shambhala, Nyingma and Kagyu lineages in this new chant written by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, we will explore the richness of our inheritance and deepen our understanding of what it means to be in the Family of Basic Goodness.

N. California Community Practice Day
Natural Wakefulness and the Nightmare of Materialism:
The Union of Shamatha and Vipashayana
Sunday June 4th 9am - 6pm (Reception to follow)
$60 for non-members / $45 for members and pre registration
Join us for a day of meditation, contemplation and group discussion as Acharya Gaylon Ferguson leads us in meditation practices that cultivate natural wakefulness and compassion. We'll experience our inner wisdom by exploring the in-depth aspects of Shamatha (calm abiding) and Vipashyana (clear seeing) meditation. By engaging in these complimentary practices, we re-discover an innate freedom, liberating ourselves from the struggle of materialism by waking up to our fundamental openness, wisdom and dignity.

DEVOTION AS THE HEART OF VAJRAYANA:
STUDYING THE SEVEN LINE SUPPLICATION TO PADMAKARA

With Acharya Gaylon Ferguson
Cost: $75/50 (dues-paying members)
Saturday June 3, 9am-6pm

The heart of the vajrayana path is non-theistic
devotion. When we realize the inseparability of the
sacredness of the teacher and sacred world altogether
(body, speech, and mind), we enter the vajra world of
spacious wisdom and brilliant compassion united.

Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche introduced the famous and
important "White Lotus" (Pema Karpo) teachings of
Jamgon Mipham Rinpoche last year in Halifax and at
previous Vajrayana Seminaries. Mipham the Great's
commentary on the Seven-line Supplication is
considered extremely profound, bridging the outer
levels of Guru Padmasambhava with the inner and secret
levels of the inner guru according to the Maha Ati or
Dzokchen tradition.

For several years now, members of our vajra sangha
have been gathering to practice the feast of this guru
yoga sadhana, which was composed by Jamgon Mipham. Our
Sakyong introduced this feast practice to our
vajrayana community so that all tantrikas--whether
practicing ngondro, a yidam sadhana, the 6 yogas or
mahamudra--would have one practice that we could all
do together as a vajra sangha.

THE DAY WILL CONSIST OF TALKS, LISTENING TO EXCERPTS
OF THE SAKYONG'S TEACHING, GROUP DISCUSSION AND
PRACTICE OF GURU YOGA.
PLEASE JOIN IN TURNING THE WHEEL OF VAJRA DHARMA.
