It's a great idea, certainly, but I think it's really let down by the delivery. His rhymes are clunky and awkward, and he keeps slipping in and out of his accent, which isn't really very good to begin with. The tempo of the rhymes is so slow that you can hear him tripping over each and every syllable.
Also, the beats are fairly generic and uninteresting. It would be nice to hear some samples of Victorian-era music in there.
I think it all just comes across as a little half-arsed. He doesn't seem to have really done much research on 18th-century London aristocracy at all, and seems to be basing his idea of the way they spoke and the language they used on a few episodes of the Simpsons or Blackadder or something.
Sadly, I don't think it works particularly well as hip-hop or as comedy, which is a shame, because I think that the basic idea, properly executed, could be fantastic. |
