Indian police have issued pictures of the Monkey Man killer, amid reports he has claimed his second victim.

A pregnant woman died after falling down stairs at her East Delhi home as her family fled from the creature.

Officers in Ghaziabad are offering to pay £75 to anyone who can capture Monkey Man on film. Around 1,000 officers are involved in the search.

Vigilantes are taking to the streets frustrated at the police's failure to catch him.

In Noida, a mechanic wearing a black outfit and fitting a description of the Monkey Man was beaten up. A second man was attacked for apparently performing "mystical formulations".

Some witnesses say the failure to capture the Monkey Man is explained by his ability to make himself invisible.

Deepali Kumari, from Noida, said: "It has three buttons on its chest. One makes it turn into a monkey, the second gives it extra strength, the third makes it invisible.

"He touches a lock and it breaks. But he is afraid of the light."

Damn that Umbrella corporation!

They'll never catch him.

never, you hear, NEVER!!

He'll come for us all.

..

Um, not that I'd know of course. It's probably just a hoax and a bit of hysteria.

Have you seen this monkey?

Oddly, these pictures don't include his buttons. So obviously they're not very accurate.

HANUMAN GOES ON RAMPAGE
IN PATNA, INDIA

He's back! The creature called Hanuman, also known as "the Monkey Man" or "the Monkey Monster" popped up in northern India last week.

"Almost a year after residents in the Indian capital" of New Delhi "were terrorized by the alleged attacks of an elusive monkey-like creature, the eastern city of Patna says it too is facing similar attacks from an ape-like animal."

Patna is a large city on the south bank of the river Ganges, in Bihar state, located about 600 kilometers (360 miles) east-southeast of New Delhi.

"Local newspapers here" in Bihar state "are full of reports of 'mysterious monkey attacks,' but police have scotched the stories and warned of strict (legal) action against those spreading rumors."
"'There are rumors of a monkey-like machine (cyborg- -J.T.), referred to as Monkey-Man, that attacks those sleeping on rooftops and in open places at night,' said O.N. Bhaskar, Patna's police chief. 'But it is pure rumor, as no one has actually lodged a case in any police station. There have not been any recognized cases of injury. We have warned the public at large to be on guard against any rumors and to help police arrest those who spread such rumors.'"

"Residents of Patna were not reassured, with local newspapers headlining quotes from eyewitnesses and victims of the 'monkey-man.'"

"'The monkey-man attacked and injured my son-in-law, Joginder Singh, on Friday night (July 19, 2002) while he was sleeping on the rooftop of my house,' a newspaper quoted Bhagwat Sharan Singh of Patna's Mainpura colony (district) as saying, 'He (the attacker--J.T.) looked like a monkey.'" "Some even alleged the creature 'jumps and sparkles with red and blue lights.'"

"Other described it as resembling a machine, operated by remote control and 'handled by anti-social elements to terrorize people.'"

"Police chief Bhaskar said hospitals and doctors had been told to report any case of injury attributed to the mysterious creature."

"Meanwhile, fear of 'the monkey-man' took an ugly turn when a group of people beat up a Hindu sadhu (itinerant holy man--J.T.) with a flowing beard, on suspicion that he was the creature."

"The incidents in Patna seemed almost identical to the attacks reported in the Indian capital last May (2001) when, for more than a month, a 'mysterious monkey- like creature' besieged New Delhi."

(Editor's Note: For the full story of last year's Hanuman flap, see UFO Roundup, volume 6, number 20 for May 17, 2001, "Weird new 'manimal' appears in India," page 1, and UFO Roundup, volume 6, number 21 for May 24, 2001, "India cites Hanuman for two murders," page 1; "Hanuman goes on a rampage in India's Trans-Yumana," page 2; and "Hindu avatar or FEMA cyborg?" page 3.)

"Descriptions agreed that the creature was 'black' and 'ape-like, with sharp claws,' but varied on its height with some reporting it as over 1.8 meters (6 feet) tall while others said it was about 0.7 meters (2 feet) tall."

"At least two people, including a pregnant woman, were killed in a crush when hysterical people tried to escape into their homes when hearing that the monkey-man was near."

"A number of others were treated for scratches and bite wounds in hospital but a special police enquiry dismissed the 'monkey-man scare' as a figment of imagination and a product of mass hysteria."

Apparently, he tried to move to Russia, but was misbehaving himself even worse than Peter Buck.

From Pravda:

PRAVDA.Ru has already reported of an outrageous behaviour presumably displayed in the Indian capital city’s outskirts by some huge and impudent apes. One starts to involuntarily believe in such things in the light of the recent incident aboard a Aeroflot airliner flying from Delhi to Moscow. One of the passengers, resident of Delhi, behaved very strangely. So strangely that in Moscow he arrived heavily guarded by security personnel with his arms and legs tied (before he was tied he managed to bite a stewardess).
The Indian started to behave inadequately immediately after the plane took off, the passengers say. Не shouted something crazy and made indiscriminate assaults on other people. First, stewardesses tried to subdue him, but he offered resistance, having bitten one of them. Other passengers interfered, and, finally, the trouble maker was tied with adhesive and placed in the plane’s rear compartment. On the arrival in the Sheremetyevo airport, the man was detailed by the local police. When his documents were checked, his entry visa proved invalid. So, the strange passenger was deported back to his home town.

The Monkey Man may have made it north into China, according to TLC....

Excerpts:

An investigation has begun after sightings of a legendary "ape-like" beast in the forests of central China, state press said Monday.

The mythical creature was apparently seen by six people, including a journalist, in the Shennongjia Nature Reserve in China's Hubei province Sunday afternoon, the Xinhua news agency reported.

and

The latest sighting was described as a grayish "mythical ape-like animal", 1.65-meters (5.4 feet) tall with shoulder-length black hair.

One of the witnesses, Shang Zhengmin, a local reporter on the way back to Songbai town from an interview in Muyu town with five local people, said they saw the beast when they took a left turn along a mountain road.

He said the "ape-like" animal was moving fast on the road and by the time the vehicle finished the turn, the animal had disappeared.

He said the passengers got out of the vehicle and found several 30 centimeter-long (12 inches) footprints and newly broken branches in the jungle near the road.

They also claimed to have discovered a three-meter-long (9.9 feet) patch of "foul smelling urine-like liquid" on the road where the creature was seen.

Well, according to a bunch of people in India, he's real enough to break into homes and attack people.

It might be worth asking how "real" that is, though -- a lot of cryptozoology shares a border with (or overlaps with) folklore studies.

>I saw this thread & thought, "God, No! Someone's kilt the Monkey Man!"

I'd assume someone tried, since he's apparently a cyborg. While the Monkey Man was critically injured in the attack, Cambodian black-ops cyberneticists managed to graft what was left of his carcass to state-of-the-art sweatshop-constructed servomachinery. Making him faster, stronger, and much much hairier than before. He's obviously out for revenge against his would-be assassin, but assuming that his intelligence is somewhere between a man's, a monkey's, and a typical machine's, you have to expect some false starts along the way.

>They also claimed to have discovered a three-meter-long (9.9 feet) patch of "foul
>smelling urine-like liquid" on the road where the creature was seen.

Bullshit. That was concentrated hydrochloric acid. He also has flamethrowers.

Abybody else notice the remarkable resemblance between the descriptions of Monkey Man and the 19th century descriptions of Springheel Jack?

Yeah, he's like a hybrid between the Yeti and Springheel. There was a similar rash of weird events much more like Springheel Jack years ago.. 1933-44... if you search for Mad Gasser you'll find some fun stories. The cybernetic element seems tied to the home invasion element. I seem to remember Springheel Jack was tied up with electrical/mechanical imagery.
