I've found that in some rare cases, just deleting the Preferences file will work for you. Or, mayhap, you can uninstall/reinstall - sometimes, if the uninstaller is complete enough, it will think you're installing on a new puter.
There's a list of particular numbers here. And this place offers actual downloadable Mac cracks. So I've heard. The latter link also features a couple of guides to the ideas behind cracking, and reverse-engineering serial-number generators, if you want to get hardcore about it.
But in case someone from the SPA is listening, nobody associated with the running of Barbelith would recommend that you use 'em, because piracy is a crime. And we don't want the sting for it. No sir.
That said...
quote:I've managed to locate a number of cracks but none of them have worked (the bits that say - just run me don't actually launch anything and often just propt a message to the effect that i don't have the application that created them).
Could be that you've downloaded a fragment of code, not an actual application, which is why it's looking for another file. Try downloading ResEdit from Apple's website, or from download.com - it's an Apple-produced toolkit thing. A lot of code edits are written for it. Failing that, if you're _sure_ that you downloaded a program, go to download.com and snare a utility that allows you to modify the attributes of the file, and change its type to application. (I think APPL is the code for a Mac app... can't quite recall.) That might work.
