Monochrome Barbelith

Inspired by the [PICS/NO PICS] thread; would it be possible to put in a secondary front page that reduces all the background colours on Barbelith (sub-fora included) to monochrome/grey? I ask because I browse at work and the lith is a might conspicuous, especially the front page.

The Gordian solution is "don't browse at work" but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I have the same problem, but I doubt anyone's in any position to do anything about it.

Just spent the last hour looking for a thread posted by Happy Dave, he posted a good link for a free program called Ghostzilla which will allow you to view barbelith secretly at work.

Thanks Happy Dave

And I just rememberd I can copy the links by viewing the threads by source.

No good for me, I'm afraid. The system admins would probably spot it a mile away, and downloading unauthorised programs is a sackable offense.

Triplets, I always used to turn colours off in my browser -I forget what the exact menu options are but in IE it's something like Tools > Accessibility > second tab whatever that's called > Ignore colours specified on webpage. Makes everything black text on white, which is a little less conspicuous than, say, black text on pink.

Can you not just solve this by taking black and white photos of Barbelith? If you tend to browse at work a lot you could set up a little dark room under your desk, and while it would mean that the office minions would lose their little hiding place when they give you intimate lickings I think it would be a damned sight better for you to make the sacrifice rather than expect Top Programmer Boy to give up his Sundays just so you can get paid for looking at pictures of me all day. Has he posted to the Photos thread again today? Has he? Has he? Refresh, refresh, refresh!!1!!!

I'm just saying.

Hey, that technique works pretty darn well, Jack. Thanks.

looks like barbelith uses css, so if you get firefox or opera as your browser, you can alter site css for yourself per site. but it takes a little doing. firefox probably has an extension for just that, which would probably be the best place to look if you're not familiar with altering css files.

For some reason my workputer won't register the changes I've made to Explorer's settings.

See here for a tutorial on turning colours off - bottom of the page might be your issue I'm afraid!

A quick Alt+Tab usually hides things pretty quickly, but I guess you knew that.

By the way, you can run Ghostzilla from a USB stick, if that helps?

Another sneeky option might be to try workFRIENDLY, a web proxy that returns pages formatted to look like MS Word documents.

Try is here

This is more about hiding the 'lith while at work than it is about changing its colors, but you might want to check out the ol' StealthSwitch

I'd like a plain ol' boring vanilla grey Barbelith myself. But I'm a Mac user (no Ghostzilla) in the graphics industry (no black and white monitor) and my computer seems to really hate Firefox (no Firefox). Is there no love?

Easy. Use your safari settings to control the fonts and colours. I have a black-and-white Barbelith.

I see the font settings, sure enough, but nothing for colors. Do I need to write a custom style sheet? And won't that affect all pages I view? I'm using Safari 1.3.2
