I don't know why, really, but the need to edit thread titles to indicate the presence of images - sometimes as many as one (o! my connection!) - is beginning to annoy me. Only a little - only a teeny weeny little bit, especially compared to some of the big annoyances currently stomping around the place - but still annoying.
I think it may be because it hints at a desire to have everything ordered and uniform, but in what must surely by now be a rather petty way.
Is there really much of a requirement for the warning any more? Often it's fairly obvious when a thread is going to include images - I've always found the inclusion of the warning in a thread called "Photos" to be a bit daft. Other times, the number of images in a thread doesn't justify the small amount of energy used up by initiating the moderation action - the V for Vendetta thread, for example.
I dunno. Is there really a huge queue of people waiting half an hour while they desperately try to load up the few pics-laden threads we have here on 33k modems? Every now and again Barbelith does seem to latch onto something from other message boards fairly late in the game, then clings onto it for dear life after everybody else has left it for dust, and I can't help but see this as one of those times.
I say this after having started an image-heavy thread without a [PICS] warning, of course. |
