Other than Television Without Pity, Digital Spy and, of course, our sainted Barbelith, I don’t know where else on the www quality discussions about TV are happening. Can anyone recommend any other boards/forums/communties?

Afraid I don't know. I usually end up following discussions among friends-of-friends on livejournal, or using technorati, boardtracker or google to find things elsewhere

What I would love to see is an IRC channel associated with every TV channel, to let you gossip about what you're watching in real time. If nothing else, it would give us something do do during the adverts. But as far as I can tell, it doesn't exist.

I would also be interested to know of any particularly note-worthy blogs that talk about telly (even if it’s not exclusively telly).
If someone without much knowledge of the web, social software, personal publishing etc were under the impression that the only place people read/write about TV was the mainstream/traditional press, what might you point them to?

In terms of blogs, TVsquad is good, and even though the site on a whole isn't the best Aint-It-Cool-News' TV section is actually pretty solid. Also, this blog from the TV critic for the Newark Star-Ledger is worth adding the RSS feed for. And I write up a bunch of TV stuff on My blog

As a general trend, I've noticed that certain shows seem to get all the attention. So, if you're looking for writing on 24, Lost, The Sopranos, Battlestar Galactica, you can find it there. If you're looking for other, even higher rated, shows, you're not going to find too much.

Patrick, thanks very much. TVSquad and your blog are just the kinds of thing I was hoping for.
Don't suppose anyone knows of any UK equivalents?

I really like the FU forum. I pretty much only lurk there, but that's me all over.

It's supposed to be mostly for film, I guess, but they still manage oodles of good TV discussions, not all of them geeky. But! they've all just discovered Battlestar Galactica - fab - and their Dr Who thread has several posters that I kinda wish were on our Dr Who thread. Oh, and I always have their Big Brother thread open in another tab whenever the barbelith Big Brother thread is going, because the FU one is better for knowing what's going on in realtime. Without actually, y'know, buying a telly. The FU crowd all noisily coo and cluck and swear at Whatever Maxwell's Just Done, and then I come back here to see what Ganesh & co think. It's like wondering between different rooms in a pub. Different noise levels.

Oh, actually, look, they have a special 'realtime' thread too, for whoever's watching whatever whenever to just start up talking about it. That's a good idea, eh?

And. They have some really clever and funny regulars, their own never-lost-an-argument brain-in-a-tank poster, lots of sardonic + cool types, a pissy stickler for THE RULES, an enthusiastic youngster that all the wise heads say things like 'you remind me of a younger me' to, just one main troll, who's been hanging around for years and who everyone spots a mile off, and all the other GU talkboards seem to think that FU is sorta cliquey and elitist. It's great.
