Can't believe there wasn't a thread here (and I searched for it) dedicated to discussion about designing and testing RPG systems, both pen and paper and electronic.

I'm working on my own RPG system. I'm working more on the basic rules then the world at this point, I'm trying to fuse the cool things from video game RPGs (particularly Final Fantasy X, which i think is very applicable to pencil and paper gaming) on to a pencil and paper system.

Really, I'm just trying to fuse the mechanics of video games with the storytelling possibilities of an open system that comes with a GameMaster. The only game that i've seen come close was the old FFRPG, which had a few problems, namely a very clunky mathematical formula that actually slowed down play when I tried to use it.

But feel free to discuss problems in designing worlds, classes, etc. as well.

I'm a big believer in light systems, so I tend to design that way. I wrote up a system at one point that took my favorite elements of dice systems (exploding rolls, anything-goes stats) and put them into the simplest framework I could manage (sort of psuedo-FUDGE lite).

My preference as a GM is to do most of the work and only refer to dice occasionally - so I basically built the system around my GM'ing style.

In terms of things that give the Final Fantasy vibe, I hear interesting things about Exalted delivering on that front...
