Finding a quintessentially London designer...

We were going to use Vivienne Westwood for something, but she can't do it.

Who else would fit the bill as a quintessentially London designer?

Thanks

Alexander McQueen?

Hm. Is this a joke thread or are you serious? If you are serious, I think you owe us a little bit more of an attempt at background and explaining the situation / story.

Also I wonder about whether or not we could make this a more interesting generally thread by actually renaming it, "Who's a designer for London?" or something similar. Then we could turn it into something much more interesting and evocative. It's a good question.

It was serious- it's for an ad, but it's also too late as we couldn't get anyone big enough to do it, so we're using a band.

Thanks

Out of interest, who did you approach?

If you're going to pick a designer who quintessentially represents London in some manner than I think you're a bit stuck for big names. London is a fashion centre but very few big designers display at London fashion week anymore. I don't think it's necessarily accurate to state some link between London and a designer if they don't exhibit their work in the city. The current choices are displayed on the Vogue site: Ben de Lisi, Betty Jackson and Jasper Conran all show at London fashion week but Stella Mccartney, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood have decamped to Paris and Matthew Williamson has now run off to New York.

It is for a populous audience, so it was more about who we could get away with claiming were London-esque, rather than being actually based here.

Westwood would have fitted the bill on both accounts, and we had a good in with her.

Other big names mentioned above said no.

We could have potentially gone further with Matthew Williamson and Jasper Conran, but both were felt to not be well known enough.

I'm not very happy with who we will probably go with, although Morrissey's latest CD will probably feature in one vignette which I'm chuffed about.
