Click here then go to Finland. For a moment I thought why are GWAR representing Finland but no it's Lordi, which is only marginally less pleasing.
Also Iceland's Sylvia Knight while borderline eye gougingly irritating says fuck and is perfect eurovision bubblegum pop.

YEEEEEEEEEE!

This is the coolest thing to ever happen to us here in Europe's frozen armpit. Everyone I know has screamed themselves hoarse, it's like a national holiday. I called my mother, who's in Kentucky:

"Ă„iti! Suomi voitti!"
"What are you talking about?"
"Eurovision - we WON!"
(pause)
(perfectly reasonable tone) "No dear, that's not possible."

As one BBC journalist put it (and I'm paraphraseing) this is the first time Finland has come top of anything in Europe, even their suicide rate was only the second highest in Europe...

yeah - they were excellent.

Beat the shit out of the UK's entry. I mean - can someone explain the concept to me please?

DJ Daz's concept = bittersweet trip down memory lane crossed with "the kids are all right!" message, undercut by tedious pandering to School Paedo fantasies...

Music forum thread about Lordi and this year's Eurovision competition.

Can we get Wembley's mother on Barbelith? She seems like a very calming influence...

Haus, I'm sure she'd be great around here, as long as nobody lets her loose in the Temple or Head Shop. It was really charming, though, it was as though I was seven years old again and I'd just said that the entire nation of France had turned into bees and were going to eat us all. Very reassuring, that mom.

Daz's whole thing was really, really, icky...did I mishear this or does it feature the line (or simmilar) "Everyone's grown up but in my mind I'm still picking up sixth-form girls"? Whilst surrounded by, well, sixth form girls?

I'm glad Lordi won. The difference between them and their competition is the difference between old 2000AD and new 2000AD.

I, too, find Lordi's victory rather... reassuring.

Daz was icky, I agree. It doesn't help that my housemate claimed he looks very much like some real, known paedophile (I'm not up to speed on my UK popular culture here). The German one was a bit depressing, being neither a) sung by a German nor b) actually Country & Western as advertised nor c) any good.

But what about the Lithuanian entry? I was quite impressed by that...

I cannot stop singing the Lithuanian entry! All day long, "We are the winnerzzz! Of Eurovision!" Catchiest fucking tune possible.
