I Just Fell Asleep At My Desk....

Its mid afternoon, i have an almighty hangover from a very big night out last night, i just got woken up by a collegue having fallen asleep at my desk, Barbelith, entertain and amuse me so i don't have to do anymore work today please.

Any ideas to get me though these painful last hours or annecdotes relating to my predicament are welcome- ways of sleeping, getting out of work- my collegues know i have a hangover so leaving early is not an option!

Any thoughts? I have to get through till 7pm- its now 3.11pm 4 long hours...

This is embarrassing. I had a hangover practically every day for 10 years and I can't think of 1 single hangover anecdote.

Go to the restroom and sleep sitted on the toilet in 15 min. instalments. That's what I do when I get too tired. If someone asks why you're talking so long, you had oisters for dinner last night (or whatever gives your bowels night frights)

Very few people will have the balls to question that.

Hope it helps the time passing faster.

The day is getting worse- the collegue that woke me up has just left the office for the day "are you alright finishing some stuff for me- i'm leaving early today remember" gah! i've actually got to try and do some work fer goodness sake!

I've just taken another couple of paracetamol and opened a can of 7up for sugar! And then I remembered another deadline that i promised to have ready for someone else at 6pm.. shit. And even worse rather than work i'm writing this....

7Up is good, paracetamol is good, but Feminax (period pain tablet) is best.

Always dubious of new pain killers as i'm allergic to both Aspirin and ibuprofen... also shouldn't i be a lady to take feminax?

Cold and flu tablets or just sinus tablets like Sudafed. The pseudo-ephidrine is the answer. It wakes you right up. Do you have a stance on Red Bull? That should wake you up sufficiently. And of course the old favourite hair of the dog. Might be tricky to sneak a pint into work though.

A vodka and Sudafed cocktail sounds like a potential recipe for disaster (not that I think anyone actually suggested one).

Lots of water will rpobably still help, as will coffee, lucozade or indeed Sudafed. That and an iron will to make it through the rest of the day; or failing that, frequent breaks staring into nothingness to gather yourself for the next ten minutes of work might do the trick.

right, for one thing, youm know full well youm shouldn't really drink at the moment, so there's only youm to blame for that, and second, this is basically a 'gone fishing' thread - the subtext here, clearly is 'ask me what i was doing last night, go on, ask me ask me'

so no one ask him.

Ahhh, sudafed- i had some in my office from January cold. It may just help.

On the red bull thing i kind of put myself off by once drinking too much under similar circumstances- when i eventually got home I couldn't sleep- just lay on the bed looking at my alarm clock slowly work its way through the night. Horrible- also doesn't caffine dehydrate you more?

I'm also beyond hair of the dog- i think it will just make me ill- two hours left to go.

Hair of the dog's unfortunately the only way forward, old bean. I recommend Smirnoff Ice- goes down easy, even if you've got a dicky tummy, and doesn't make you stink of booze.

We may need more information to make a correct diagnosis. Are you feeling queasy in the stomach or is this more of a headache/shakes type of thing. I pretty much exclusively get the latter, although as my age advances my hangovers, like the rest of my life, are related closer to my stomach.

Either way, go the sudafed. Hangover + sudafed = feeling better than your non-hangover state. It's a combination of the up and the down.

I always find MSG-based snacks help. Beef Monster Munch for preference.

Headache and shakes and extreme tiredness- also lethargy- i don't really want to do any more work (although i know i should). The Sudafed was taken about 20 minutes ago and it seems to be easing some of the headache- but what of the lethargy?

I tried hiding in the toilet but somone had been there before and it smelt! So i'm back in my office with the door shut...

puke all over your shoes and shuffle around your boss' office until they tell you to fuck off home.

mmmm MSG... good idea- Wotsits are always good as are Monster munch -corn snacks are soo much more satisfying than crisps in a hang over situation. plus the added bonus of a walk to the shops - vital for both killing time and fresh air.

My boss just asked if i can deliver a job on Monday rather than Tuesday (as I'd expected) This means i'm working at the weekend and maybe even later tonight... and still i'm posting on Barbelith...

I think your boss and workmates are just piling work on you because they know that you're closing to cracking. I bet they have a sweep going as to when you'll break. It can't be a coincidence that keep getting more work as the day progresses. Maybe they're reading this thread.

Pickled Onion Monster Munch, Peanut M&M's and Lemon & Ginger Tea have all now been consumed- i'm getting a second wind (also for fear of not delivering) so on with it- I also realised I can cheat one deadline by simply coping an old job... apple C and Apple V cut n paste we love you- even if original thinking it ain't!

I'm still at work! And probably will be for another hour thanks to the moved deadline- that said corn snacks and sudafed seem to have helped lots- as did lemon and ginger tea- very soothing- any minute now SO will call wondering why i'm working late... its a conspiracy i'm sure!

Hang in there, dude, it will pass. Keep drinking water. Did you try my toilet trick?

Due to the time zone, I'm getting to work right now. Unfortaunally, I'm already transformed to weekend mode, which will make for an interesting shift.

from upthread...

I tried hiding in the toilet but somone had been there before and it smelt!

I'm gonna leave in the next ten minutes- i've got a lot of the work done that i didn't think i would so hopefully my weekend won't be too disrupted.
