Ravers dress as zombies and one goes on the rampage then shoots himself(BBC)

And when the bodies hit the floor they said PLUR...

Factuals: zombie, singular, and the police didn't take him out - he kiled himself when challenged by police.

Now, where do we want to go with this? Second amendment? The way this will be used by the national government to crack down further on ravers (lest we forget, pacifiers as drugs paraphernalia)? The terrible dangers of trance music?

Sorry, lazy posting all round. Hadn't had my first cup of tea/speedball hit/wank of the day. Erm, yes. Aside from the sheer bonkersness of it, what to say further?

Is this a common thing for the young folk, then? Dressing as zombies for raves?

Back in the day? Like circa Party Monster mid 1990s?

Actually, just reading the article I don't see anything about a rave, just a zombie house party.

The gunman was allegedly at a zobie rave before turning up at the zombie party...

So let me get this straight. He was at a Zombie rave, and then wandered off to a Zombie house party? Goddamn, Seattle's cool as fuck.

Someone met him at a rave, and invited him to the house party. After this, I doubt anyone in the area will invite strangers to their house for a while.

Who goes to a party with a shotgun in their truck? Honestly!! "Hey, honey, I'm going to a party, do you know where I left my ammo?" The guy had issues.

Must have been an absolute nightmare for the emergency services trying to figure out who was injured (and yes, that is fairly flippant, but I also mean it seriously- I'm guessing you really don't train for that kind of shit).

Anyone smell a cynical TV movie cash-in in the offing? The guy spray-painted NOW on the pavement outside before going postal... the would-be arresting officer had got as far as "Drop your..." when he topped himself... everyone was dressed as zombies...

I think it was The Mirror which won "bestest caption in the everness of ever" award for illustrating this story with a picture of a zombie from a film, captioned "a zombie from a film". WHICH FUCKING FILM??? Do your fucking research, please.

Umm... hate to burst everybody's bubble here but... People Died. Whether they're dressed as Zombies or Pirates or Ninja or Snakes on a Plane it's still not funny.

As those of you that have gone to "raves" knows, (and this can be any generation of rave, from the 80's through to the 90s, UK or US variants) the party NEVER ends. That's what the after parties are for. Aparently this occured at such a get-together.

Now, my raving days are long behind me, I admit, being part of the US northeast ravescene from 1995 to 1999 or so, which involved NO zombism at all, but rather ridiculous candy bracelets, oversized skate trousers that just kept getting bigger at the bottom as the years went on, cute animie haircuts before anime was actually mainstream in the US, and such related culturalisms. But definately, I never once saw a zombie or likeness of such - maybe some gothic ravers or "gravers" as we used to call em towards the end, once in a while. But definately NO zombies. I'd like to suggest that the media use of the term rave might be loose at best in describing this event. Either that or I'm just extremely unhip. And if the raves don't resemble the ones I remember, I seriously doubt they resembled the traditional raves of the UK in the mid 80s to early 90s. Perhaps any teen party or get together that might involve dancing and/or drugs of any kind is called a rave these days.

Regardless, it's sad that it happened. If its not a wake up call about the insanity of the gun laws in this country, then i'm not sure what is. But i do know one thing - this type of event is only sure to become more common in the future.

Hmmm. Yes, I believe that may well be the case, especially in light of the desire of various authorities to legislate against them. In this case, however, it seems to have been a rave proper, just a themed one:

There's been a vogue lately for zombie-themed get-togethers - this was presumably trend-surfing.

Also, one eyewitness report has a wounded man wearing gloves with blinking lights at the fingertips. Interestingly, he apparently asked the eyewitness to take them off for him, and the eyewitness declined. I read on MeFi that this was apparently because gloves with LEDs on count as drugs paraphernalia in Seattle/Washington state. Can this be true? Or does it mean that they might provide a just cause for drugs testing by Police. Obviously, the fellow probably wasn't thinking entirely straight...

tim boucher's meta link on the massacre

But who's to blame? Zombie Films, drugs, raves, video games, comics? Seems like the coverage I read hasn't done the whole reactionary thing that they would have a few years ago.

Phex- wasn't trying to make light of the situation- I really wouldn't put it past someone to do the TV movie thing. Ambush In Waco hit the airwaves before the siege had even finished, ferfucksakes.

But I doubt anyone will be blaming zombie movies for this- people dressed as zombies were the victims here.

Sadly I doubt many people will blame it on the easy availability of guns, either.
