Hello!

I was wondering if anyone had worked with the Goddess Kali? Thats about it really, just curious thats all?

Well ok its just that I've been re-reading a kids book and it all makes alot more sense now, lots of talk in it about Setians and various Goddesses, Kali is in it quite a bit and just wondered if anyone had worked with her...although I doubt it as she isn't the friendliest of people

I know return you to your regular broadcast

The books were "The Last Vampire" collection by Chirstopher Pike, kinda teen horror really - still quite enjoyed reading them again - I loved them when I was young but didn't really know any of the references he made, and didn't know if they were real or not, turns out they were - makes you wonder if he dabbled in a bit of magick, and makes you wonder what else is hidden in kids books?

If you want Kali, read Tantric literature. I suggest "Aghori" by Vindumnalamna as a primer. I presume you're CM, so you probably won't jibe with the Kali-Ma as universal goddess model which is implicit to Tantra, but it might give you some ideas, not to mention dispel some of the "Temple of Doom" imagery surrounding Kali. While she indeed does have her more "terrible" aspects, I suggest you think of her as a stern, protective mother, which is how most Anand Margis, Nath Siddhas and Aghoris would characterize their relationships with Ma.

If Setite lit is characterizing Kali as "spooky uber-destruction goddess" their post-Victorian slip is showing. English and other Christian-enculturated scholars have been particularly harsh and misunderstanding of the image of Ma [both in the sense of the artistic depictions, which are pretty gruesome to Western aesthetic, and the larger role she plays]. This interp was profoundly influenced by the fear illicited by the Thugi ecstatics, who represented only a small and twisted offshooting of Tantra and the worship of Ma, but is now presented as the whole of it.

Monkey - Is that the same book "Aghora: At the Left Hand of God" by Robert Svoboda (about his teacher the Aghori Vimlalananda) or is it a differnt book.

If it's different, I also recommend Svoboda's book. If it's the same, I second the recommendation.

Lothar can spell. It's the same. I lent my copy to someone ages ago, and was sort of swinging in the dark about the title/author.

Monkey was swinging. Get it? Monkey's swing from trees...

I'll get my coat.

The book is really cool though. It'll give most westerners a completely different impression about Tantra and what a 'holy man' is supposed to act like. It breaks some sterotypes and has a kick like a mule.

Oh... and it's got a good tune that you can dance to
