I've just been listening to some tracks i downloaded from the LP 'Oh You're So Silent Jens' - its bloody great. Some tracks like 'I Saw Her In The Anti War Demonstration' sound just like early Belle & Sebastian (when the smiths/ Morissey influnce was more apparent) with equally wry lyrics-

when I was sixteen I hang out with the kids who liked it
the kind of punks that were born in leather jackets
the kind of punks who placed themselves in brackets

while on others like 'Pocketful of Money' we start with a similar fey folky thing before the choruses give us Calvin Johnson/ Beat Happening-esque super deep countrified vocals.

I know nothing about him other than he's swedish and recorded a couple of great sounding records- i'm downloading like crazy. Maybe bits of Jonathan Richman influence in there too, can anybody tell me any more about him, seen him live, recommend some other stuff?

I dunno, I like some of the album but chunks of it sound a little too much like 69 Love Songs era Magnetic Fields to me, and frankly it lacks that particular jem's brilliance.

Gah, stop grumbling Daddy O. I'm liking it a lot today- maybe more than the last Belle & Sebastian album- cos its sounds like how they used too/ how i like them most- but i've not heard the whole thing yet so i could go off it.

Have you heard 69 Love Songs? I know I go on about it a lot, and I know it ain't all great, but if you've not been exposed you should give it a go. I reckon you'll get The Love.

I don't dislike You're So Silent Jens, I just prefer something that, at least to me, sounds a lot like it.
