no thread on this yet ... is anyone else remotely interested?
to be fair i didn't even think i was until i watched craig mottram almost win gold in the 5000m in front of his home crowd.

who'd have thought distance running could be exciting? the difference this time was that the commentators actually bothered to explain what was going on: what each athlete's strengths/weaknesses were and how their race plans were determined by that.

but seriously folks... is australia actually a continent-sized sporting academy or does it just seem that way from over here?

i thought the bbc upped their game a bit in their coverage of this, but i suppose that was just out of fear that nobody would be interested in the commonwealth games if they didn't
