Do you ever just give up on posts because you realize you have nothing of value to contribute to the discussion? Do you click "Back" and return to reading more interesting and informative posts?

I do. I almost didn't finish typing out this thread.

Share your experiences. Now. Do it. Don't give up.

Yeah, there was this one thread where... you know what? Never mind.

Frequently.

happens to me all the time matthesis. It sometimes seems everyone on Barbelith has preplanned what they are going to say it's all so articulate and flowy.

That said, it's good to keep trying and add to the cacophany.

Yes and a very good thing it is too...

I’m with sleaze. What makes Barbelith great is as much to do with what *doesn’t* get posted as what does.

(I sometimes hear people say that on Barbelith they ‘read more than they post’. Which suggests that on other boards people post more than they read. *shudder*)

If I finished every post I started? I don't know, I'd probably rival Haus.

Well, maybe not, but I'd post way more often.

Most of the time I drift along in this state of feeling like whatever I wanted to say isn't relevant enough, or whatever.

Jack Fear
16:12 / 15.03.06
All the time. I probably average four posts abandoned to every one completed.

And this is, as Sleaze suggests, a good thing. It has kept me out of an awful lot of trouble, I think.

It's a fine thing, to listen and not speak. 'swhy God gave us two ears, but only one mouth.

often.
threads-that-coulda-been as well as posts, hey.

more often they are the long and involved kind, and it feel like a waste not to post them some day. to this end i have a handful of *.txt files of orphaned nonsense chunks on the just in case.

it's also often the case that i'm editing the post to take out potentially controversial/boring/self-serving/wanky/etc lines and end up trashing the remaining skeleton on account of it now being pointless.

I more often loose a post that i started - or I leave a post half written, then do some work- then someone else answers/ my point is no longer relevent- or my computer crashes, i wrote a huge response a few weeks back to a thread in music- only to have it crash- and i never posted all the points i wanted to... gotta let some go i spose.

I post once per four or five attempts. Getting better -- used to post 1/10 or so. More because the attempts were half-hearted than because I'm that shy.

Dead Megatron

Every time I realise the post I'm writting contributes nothing to the debate and it's just some smirking comment to make people look at me. And there were times I whish I haven't post when it was to late.

Never on Convo, though

I (almost) always do that, regardless of the contents of the post or how long I spent writing it, to the point where I hardly post at all, even at the rare times that I do have things of (relative) value to contribute to the discussion. It's usually just because of shyness, so I've been trying to get over it. I thought I was the only one doing it, actually. Maybe I am at most forums I go to.

Must not click "Back"...

I often abandon posts just because I cannot articulate the incredibly relevant thing I was thinking. Or because I suddenly can't spell.

I usually abandon posts because I realize that what I have to say is so far beyond the capabilities of 99% of Barbelith posters to appreciate or comprehend that I'd really only confuse and terrify you. So I do it out of mercy, really, out of my great love and affection for your fragile sensibilities. Also, sometimes while I am composing an epistle, a real live tiger runs past me, and quickly I shut down my computer and bound after it, and we frolick for a time amidst the yellow tulips, and the blood of the sheeple is in our jaws. Does that ever happen to you?

Y'know, I already post WAY too often... it frightens me to think of what some of the bollocks it's occurred to me to post would be doing, given free reign.

It's a Do-Barbelith-Yourself post!

I second these reasons and 'd like to add that I'm a terrible slow writer, especially in an other language. Maybe, if you all could read Dutch....

Also: typing on a PSP is damn hard.

I post pretty freely on Conversation. On the Temple I post maybe 1 out of every 10 posts that I write. Too afraid of looking like an idiot, I suppose.

I wouldn't say that this spot is intimidating, just that the level of discourse commands a bit of respect. It's nice to see that 'lith people are careful.

My mind wanders more than my mouth so I have to keep the many readily available tangents under control. I probably post 1 out of 5 times I start to.

In other news...

I just posted something in a thread on books that I had already deleted twice before. Inspired by this thread, I took the plunge, and posted something. It's not gold, but then again, not every post can be gold.

[
And now follows somebody posting:
-Every single one of my posts is a currency in another country.
-My posts are so golden that Nelly is jealous of my grillz
-Everything I say is witty

Yes, but not as often as one might think. Most of the time I mean-to-post-then-change-my-mind I do the mind changing before I even hit the "reply" button. I reply on a barbelith a lot more in my head than what you actually see on the internet.

But in my head... I am the barbelith overlord of pure thought-awesome. I am everywhere at everytime. It's quite sad that we can't all live inside my head in real life.

See? That's an example of a post that I should have hit "back" on instead of "post reply". Alas.

I think about 90% or so of what I start writing ends up on the board. Whether it should... I don't really want to know.

Very occasionally, I'll start and pack up if I'm being too boring or annoyed, and I've only recently started using preview - to check images work mostly.
