Thank you all....
The commission is a bit of a loose cannon, really. The charity itself is very old-fashioned in many respects, and most of its supporters are 60years+, but we do already cater for them with some of the other card designs so this one can be.... more youthful, shall we say. It's an arts charity trying to reach a younger market anyway, so they want it to feel a bit special but to have a broader appeal than the fourteenth century nativities we churn out. In past years, the Quentin Blake and Hoffnung cards have been wildly popular, and I'm sure that Beryl Cook would've gone down well too but she doesn't take commissions.
banshee, you're probably right that it would have to be fairly conservative. The Ralph Steadman angle threw everyone a bit, and is probably a complete red herring. I think it was only suggested because someone somewhere higher up had heard of him and his wine books and thought it might be jolly. I mean, Chris Burke was turned down for being a bit too racy.
Here is the artist who does a card for us every year and sells more than Santa's elves can post out. But, of course, we don't want anything too similar.
paranoidwriter, Nick Cudworth looks most interesting indeed, and plus he has a handy musical connection. I shall investigate further... |
