Michael Caine used to be handsome? [PICS]

Michael Caine's always been an old dude to me, he was in Cocktail with Tom Cruise when I was little. But I was watching Alfie today (Caine's character is kind of a dickhead in this), and I was kinda shocked that Caine looks handsome. Sharp. This picture doesn't do him justice, but look anyway.

I guess it depends on your definition of handsome.
Or maybe it's just the picture, but he looks a little like Lurch from the Addams Family.

I know, I couldn't find one from Alfie.

Here's a better one.

Undoubtedly handsome and a great actor. He never looks like he's acting either. Bermondsey's finest!

Any other Michael Caine movies I should look out for? He was really great in Alfie.

And then there's Harry Palmer. Grimy+superspy=cool as fuck.

Jack, you should definitely watch Ipcress File.

Starring Caine's Harry Palmer.

You need to see originals of The Italian Job and Get Carter as well as the Harry Palmer films (The Ipcress File and the like), Zulu (but not Zulu dawn) and the Man who would be king (a dual header with Sean Connery)... there are a load of other films - Caine is and was a jobbing actor for whom no part was too small nor any film too shit - Caine is in Jaws IV, but these are the main ones...

Yup, there's Harry Palmer. The Ipcress File is the best of those. Then there's Get Carter. He was great in The Man Who Would Be King with Connery. He wasn't at all bad in Hannah and Her Sisters, although it wasn't a great Woody Allen film. He was damn fine in Educating Rita and poignantly drunk a lot again in The Honorary Consul.

I think the best thing he ever did was one of his most recent though: The Quiet American. He was brilliant in it.

And I wouldn't want to overlook his camp cameo in Miss Congeniality.

I think, though, that Get Carter and the Harry Palmer films would suit a testosterone-fuelled dude like yourself, Dumfield.

You know, I always imagined Haus looks a little like Michael Caine.

I'd like to second The Quiet American

And, fred, you don't like The Ipcress File? What is this madness?

Jack I had a similar reaction when watching the original Italian job a few years ago. And yes he's very cute in the Ipcress File: "I am going to make you... the best dinner you've ever had.."

You can't have a Michael Caine thread without

'You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!

And possibly

'and remember- they drive on the wrong side of the road here...'

He's a big man these days, but he's out of shape.

Jack, if you like Michael Caine, then you should also check out BRYAN BROWN in Cocktail (to my memory the only film that Tom Cruise has been in that Michael Caine is in, is Austin Powers, Goldmember)

Ha! Ever since I was little I thought that was Michael Caine. Maybe he's always been handsome then.

*has nothing to say worthwhile, but says:*

Ahoy there. He was... good looking. I wouldn't say sexy. But decent looking.

*backs away slowly...*

*then runs and slams the door*

My girlfriend has just added:

"I would rather Terence Stamp... and/or David Warner."

What is the missing word in that sentence? I asked her... and she became defensive.

"They're only slightly more than twice my age!"

You can't not have this picture:

Jack, I recommend Pulp, although I can't remember much about it. That and The Muppet Christmas Carol... ("Ham-baag!")

I agree all the Harry Palmer films are excellent (apart from the one with Jason Connery): cool, sharp, clever; and the only Cold War era films I can remember where the Russians are as smart, funny, and (disl)likeable as their western counterparts. e.g. the loveable Colonel Stok (played by Oskar Homolka).

Oh, and while we're talking of great Michael Caine films, let's not forget his top turn opposite dear old Larry Olivier in the classic, 'Sleuth'.

Also, although I haven't seen it in years, I seem to remember 'Deathtrap' was quite good as well.

Terence Stamp was originally offered the Alfie gig but turned it down.

Hmm. I don't know about handsome, but there was definitely something kind of non-specifically sexy about him.
