He doesn't like being naked, probably 'cause he was so very overdue and got more than a little used to the tight safety of the womb, and he pretty much wants to be constantly held.

Aha, sounds like an ideal candidate for swaddling, have you tried it? I've heard it can work wonders.

He's also very keen on breastfeeding - perhaps too keen, as he seems to be just as interested in sucking for suckings sake

Establishing breastfeeding can be very difficult, using Mum as a dummy is common at the start. He's probably building up the milk supply and in the meantime your poor partner is no doubt feeling like an exhausted hormonal milk machine. I remember feeling absolutely shattered at this point, but I can report that whilst it may sometimes feel like it, it really doesn't last forever- hang in there!

Have tried a bit of swaddling and he wasn't too keen, but we'll see how it goes.

At the moment he just won't settle at night. He wants to feed and feed and feed, and poor Bobosso's getting no sleep and I'm getting no sleep thinking about her getting no sleep.

Good thing he's so cute.

Have you thought about cranial osteopathy? we had some 3 month old twins attending our last NCT class last night, and their Mum (they were exhibits, rather than parents-to-be) said that one had basically been sitting on the other's head for the last three months in utero, and the underdog had come out perpetually curled up like a woodlouse. She said cranial osteopathy worked wonders and wasn't half as scary to watch as she had expected because the movements were so minimal. One caveat, though - it can make them cry a lot so if you're already sleep-deprived you might want to time this carefully.

Our imminent arrival will no doubt be offered Dad's special teats (you can tell the time by them in direct sunlight). Said father will no doubt be overjoyed to hear there's a chance the youngun might latch on.

[Apologies for sloppy posting (no doubt, no doubt). Progesterone-addled brain. Found my mobile phone in the fridge yesterday.]

That's nothing. The other month my mum found the cheese in the sink and the grater in the fridge. I don't have a kid though, just eight foamy daughters.

Safeling, you're going to NCT classes? Good on you. We loved ours and I can't wait to meet up with the rest of the class in a few months time.

As for cranial osteopathy, we might decide to go for it (I had cranial osteopathy as a child. I too am a twin) but it's early days and we have no idea whether we're dealing with long term problems or short term hiccups.

When do we get pics of Bambino Bobossino? I demand pics of baby cuteness.

Hopefully later today when I get home from work.

I would've put 'em up last night but he was fretful and it was all a little distracting.

He doesn't like being naked

My nevvy had that - he would cry all the time he was out of his babygro - and my sister said she'd been told (by her midwife/health visitor maybe?) that it was normal for newborns. He's now nearly 2 and loves being naked! A happy ending!

Being naked is fun

You think you have a hard time now, Boboss. Wait until he's a teenager and comes up with this wonderful line: "I didn't ask to be born". And you'll remember these days and the hard work it was him being born.

Thank God parental love is infinite.

I'm sure that, deep down, you're enjoying it all more than anything in your son-less life, dude.

Barbelith demands pics!!!!!!

Wow, well done!

He looks so unique, not like the typical baby. I guess, it´s the nose, the serious expression and that he seems to be so slim.

All the children in our family have the same nose.

Yeah, we're a bunch of big noses.

He's not actually that thin.

Fennec pile

Nope, that'd be a genuine sheepskin brought for us by my wonderful godparents. He seems to like it.

He's adorable! Great pic, too.

He has tried sucking on my nipples. It is teh babycute!!11!

Lil' monk does that to me too. I keep telling him, "Mine don't work like that!" Does he listen? Noooo.

Well done all round, man. Enjoy this time while you've got it. You won't believe how quickly it goes.

We can thank Bobosso and her mad art skillz for the quality of the photo.

Monky, how old's Little Monk now? Is he still on the breast?

Are you sure?

My sense of time is so screwy at the moment. It feels as if we've had him for years.

When I was holding him earlier it occurred to me that the day will come when from that point forward I will never be able to hold him in my arms ever again.

Weird.

Yeah, it's gotta be mind-boggling.

So, do you feel you understand your parents better now?

Spaniel
20:11 / 17.03.06
Well, I certainly understand parenting a little more, but I think I'll need a few years on the job before I'm equipped to answer your question.

Deva - WHOA! I'm not half the father I thought I was! ;-)

Boboss - Lil' monk's almost 11 months old now. He gave up the breast at around six or seven months. IIRC, that was about the time he started teething, so Mrs. monk was kinda relieved (as well as a little sad).

My sense of time is so screwy at the moment. It feels as if we've had him for years.

I know that feeling well.

When I was holding him earlier it occurred to me that the day will come when from that point forward I will never be able to hold him in my arms ever again.

And that one too. But we've both got plenty of time before that day comes. Use it well, proud papa.

And do relay my compliments and admiration to Bobosso. She does nice work.

FUCKING ADORABLE.

(Just seen yr ex-housemate who was relating actual/in-the-flesh news of bab and family. She reckons bab has bobosso's eyes, tho')

Yr not kidding about the nose, though. A dominant gene, f'sure.

That's a pretty cute kid you got their, Boboss.

Hope you and Bobossina (sp?) are in good health.

Sometimes, newborn children are said to resemble Winston Churchill or occasionally the Buddha - you guys seem to have been delivered of a child resembling Malcolm McDowell. Well, there's something of Mick Travis in If to the expression on Bobossino's face to my mind anyway.

And a great picture it is too.

Very cute picture, yes but is it safe to leave Bobossino asleep on a polar bear? They can be quite nasty I hear. I don't want to question your parenting skills at this early stage but leaving your newborn child upon wild beasts is a nono I'm sure.

I feel that I should advise you not to buy Bobossino a peekaboo piano. I have seen it advertised and apparently it makes you regard your child as as an entertaining commercial product.
