I know I say this every time the subject's raised (either on Barbelith or in real life) but I still think putting him in a cell with Michael Carroll would be the best reality show ever.
I also find it hugely interesting, in terms of gender politics as well as in terms of the "myth of the rock star" that while having a relationship with a supermodel still seems to be a badge of honour for the aspiring drug-crazed rock behemoth, the majority of the media tend to add "who has been going out with Kate Moss" as an explanation of who the guy is in the first place. Which isn't quite how it'd have happened if it was Keef in the late sixties.
Also the fact that (and this one isn't so much supposed to be pointing up anything about media- I am quite prepared to believe both the examples I give) Ms Moss's drug revelations in the news all sound like great fun- glamorous people doing recreational drugs and having lots of sex. Pete, on the other hand, keeps getting busted for driving a car while fucked off his nut (which, call me conservative if you will, is definitely a dangerous practise and one which should be legislated against) and breaking into his mate's house for stuff to sell for smack money (which, again, I can't really see a glamorous side to).
(Gender-wise, there's also the element that her misdemeanours are always "drug shame" for which she should be contrite, whereas his are just more adventures of a "bad boy of dodgy indie rock"- this could arguably be balanced by the fact that she's managed to keep her career on track while he's more and more becoming known to be something of a tosspiece...) |
