So yeah, VH1 are doing some kind 'Nation's Favourite Lyric' thing. The link to find this poll is submitted for your approval here:

Now, is it me, or is that a rubbish selection of lyrics?

For the record, I voted for Nirvana.

The Arctic Monkeys are on there? Good Lord? How long have they been around for, ten minutes?

I voted for the Beach Boys, God Only Knows.

The Clash are only on there once? WTF, as some people say.

weird list. they've got evertime we say goodbye, but i thought the best line in that was 'i can hear a lark somewhere' - lyrics don't get much clearer crispier or damn prettier than that.

but they kind of redeem the whole list just by having 'son im thirty, i only went with your mother cos she's dirty' in there. (in the song it's the way he does 'went' as WEY-ent)

Very weird list- absolutely no point in voting on it is there?

We can pretty much bet that Bobsi Williams wins with angels (the nations favourite tune)

I'm very suprised that there ain't a single Pulp tune in there- Jarvis being the king of wry english one liners and all that.

I actually hate that someone has made this shortlist as somekind of 'official' thing, because for every vaguely reasonable lyric in there, there's a million better ones that they've forgotten...

Gah and they almost seem to have confused Lyric with song- watcha think?

Agreed. It seems that they are evaluating the entire song based on the lyric. I'm sure people (myself included) will vote for a song based on the overall "quality" of the song, as opposed to the "quality" of the specific lyric.

Don’t leave it to the anoraks that haunt the MTV cafeteria into the wee small hours arguing semantics, make it your list and your choice.

I thought an anorak was like a parka?

It is. It is also the notional garment of choice for obsessive, nerdy types (so-called because they were often worn by trainspotters, who perforce often had to be outside in rough weather. By extension, "anorak" is often applied to the obsessive, nerdy types themselves.
