Skrull Kill Krew

Essential Dazzler

I've just noticed that Marvel are collecting this mini in May.

All I know about it is Morrison and Millar co-wrote it, and it's been mentioned in the same breath as Nextwave a few times.

Is it worth wating for the trade, or should I wait to see it in a 25p bin?

cool, glad to see it'll be collected. Where did you find out it's being put into paperback?

I first noticed it on Marvel's new site, but amazon has it listed here with a cover

'S not that great, kiddies. Quite amusing. Although that's a not bad cover.

Consider is against the other Marvel super-titles of the year, and just the things they put in the Krew's mouths, make it that much better. You just know some poor fatbeard out there was taking the hammer-happy loon with the racial issues straight and at face. And then, possibly mid-panel, it hit.

It's probably worth have a glance through in the shop, though, just for the great line, I think about halfway through the first issue, when Baron Von Strucker asks one of his Hydra aides for a glass of champagne during the middle of a fire fight with the SKK.

'But why, Herr Baron?'

'Well you know how grumpy I get without my Bolly.'

that's an inside panel, is it the final cover?

if you enjoyed Ellis' NEXTWAVE you're surely gonna love its older brother. I mean, SKK get their powers from eating burguers made out of Skrulls that got hypnotized into cows by Reed Richards in the 60s/70s.

plus: Steve Yeowell on art. not an Earth-shattering story, but very fun stuff. there should be more.

Skrull-cows would be circa '61, 'cause they're the original skrulls doing retcon for an invasion in 'Fantastic Four' #2 or 3. And they'd already been dealt with, in continuity - I believe, in 'Avengers' - and touched on in FF proper, by John Byrne, during his run. Thus, further illustrating the great continuities wars of Byrne and Morrison, and leading us to ponder the results of a Moore/Byrne team-up.
What's a shame is that the impact will have dwindled on these, especially since there's not going to be the brilliant alien-corpse-inna-alley adverts in the back of random Marvel comics, this time. And it means nothing, now, that they came under the 'Marvel Edge' banner, which was an outlet, mostly, for grim'n'gritty lite where everyone ground their teeth menacingly and Dr. Strange may have even lifted a few big guns for the cause (and a few little gems like the 'Typhoid Mary' mini), not only because Marvel Knights handled the concept with a wave of serials much superior in their presentation (with a few little blips, like Kevin Smith's 'Daredevil'), but simply, comics changed, and even Marvel isn't as generally careful now as they were then... and what the hell's up with no smoking in the 616, now, but other pulpy substances (see 'NextWave' or 'Alias' or hell, kick from NXM) can be consumed?
Skrullburgers haven't quite the impact after people've mainlined Spider-Woman, taken hits of an X-villain, or even Wolverine eating parts of himself.

there's a scene too where cap america is in a diner, kinda playing peek-a-boo with a couple of kids, while eating apple pie. it's great.

Don't forget the cigarette holder.

I missed this first time round, and bought the trade on Saturday. I absolutely loved it- anyone who enjoys Nextwave really should pick it up. (For comparison, imho it's not as good as Nextwave #s 1,2 and 5, but better than #s 3 and 4).

I sometimes forget just how much FUN George can be when he just cuts loose and has a laugh. (And that Millar chap too).
