Octavia Butler is dead

Yesterday Octavia Butler fell outside her house during what neighbors thought was a stroke. A neighbor kid found her outside her house. They rushed her to the hospital, and found blood had pooled in her brain, they operated but she passed away today.

Did she even have time to enjoy the recent success?

That's terribly sad. Not read any of her stuff, but Parable Of The Sower has been on my "to read" list for ages, and has been highly recommended.

I came here to post this. What a sad thing this is. I know so many people for whom she was such an inspiration, and it's sad that another generation of young readers won't get to know her work while she's still alive to continue it.

It's weird I discovered Butler on Barbelith (thanks to grant) and now I read this. I think I'm going to read one of her books in her honor.
