Yahoo blocks e-mails with the word "Allah"

I was browsing the Fox News site (I like to piss myself off by watching O'Reilly, Cavuto and the other hell-minions) and came across this piece of news

The two first paragraphs read:

A man says his attempts to sign up for an e-mail account with Yahoo failed when he used his name, which includes the letters a-l-l-a-h — as in Allah, the Arabic word for God.

Ed Callahan said he started trying to establish the e-mail account after his mother, with the same last name, couldn't get one.

Now, I'm no specialist, but this seems to me as a big show of bigotry and irrational fear.

Any thoughts?

Well, they've changed their policy now. I'm not sure how much I buy their reason for the original ban, but I have seen offensive email addresses like "KillAllArabs88" used (trollishly) on message boards, so some people are doing that sort of thing - and I would assume that other people report these addresses to the ISPs and demand that they do something about it. If that was their reason, though, the policy itself obviously wasn't that well thought-out.

Wasn't it yahoo that had a problem with Scunthorpe and Essex a few years ago?
