FOUR COLOR LOVE STORY

I'm sure this is old hat to most of the people here, but I just saw the Valentine's Day post over on So So Silver Age and it's one of those things that just touched me in a funny way and made me feel all watery inside. Is it my man-period, or are these strange feelings...emotions?!?

The song, "Four Color Love Story" is really great and you can download it here:

I liked IDENTITY CRISIS just fine, but it didn't make me love comic books (although it did make me love Oliver Queen in a special kind of way that I'm already discussing with my therapist). This song, "Four Color Love Story", however, has made me love comic books more than any comic book ever did.

Yeah, that is a really lovely little song. Although shouldn't this thread really be in the music forum, given that it's more about the song than it is about comics.

Still, it's very nice song I like:

"We didn't even kiss till issue twenty six,
and this world stil feels like 1963,"

oh and

"Gwen stacey isn't dead, she's just sleeping,
and Elekra isn't evil or insane
and those bastards in the pentagon can't really kill Sue Dibney..."

It makes me nostalgic for comics that, in some cases, I haven't even read and wasn't even born. Lovely.

Sure, if it needs to be moved, move it on.

I guess the thing this song makes me think whenever I hear it (and also looking at the So So Silver Age post) is: why can't comic books be this romantic. Is there a place for romance in comic books? I've always liked the Batman/Catwoman lust, even though it's been handled better and worse over the years, and I like Oliver Queen and Black Canary (although - are they still together? I don't keep up too well).

But more than any other writer, Brian Bendis has done the best romance. I read ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN and DAREDEVIL almost solely for the romance and those're my favorite parts of those two books.

I remember the first time I saw THE THIN MAN and how enamored I was of William Powell and Myrna Loy's gin-fueled marriage - I sometimes wish there was a longtime married couple in comics who had a title built around them. Maybe there is and I just haven't noticed it?

The DeMatteis run of Mister Miracle used the marriage of Scott and Barda as one of the cornerstones of the story, but it only ran for two and a bit years. It says much that they concluded the series not with death, destruction, or divorce (the 9th of The Endless*) but with a recommitment ceremony for the two Apokalips 'fugees.

This thread needs a focus in order for me to decide whether it should be moved. It also needs an abstract.

You don't makes things easy on us mods do you, Mr Grady Hendrix?

Okay, so, is this a thread about a particular piece of music (if so we're off to the music forum) or about how a particular piece of music made you feel that modern mainstream comics lack romance (if so it can stay)?

For the record, at the moment I'm inclined to throw this up to the Conversation and be done with it.
