Right.. so these guys decided to March down o'conneel st. Dublin.

What I feel needs doing is turning it into something of pure daftness. Must do something so blooming daft that NO ONE will take this seriously. Because - lets face it - this could get messy if the wrong element decides so.

Best recommendation I've heard so far is lots of people dress up and march as apples to put it in the right perspecive.

Don't settle just for apples and oranges - you want lemons, bananas and pairs too

Plums to fill the mouth, citrons from the south...

You could have a metaphorical reenactment of Christina Rosetti's Goblin Market... and at least if there is trouble it would end in a fruit salad...

hummmm.. not bad idea.

perhaps t-shirts saying "oranges are not the only fruit".

An orange march.. what a bad bad bad idea. I really wonder why it's happening.

Perhaps we could make a nottinghill style event of it. Grab yer samba shoes and come on down to party.

While I agree that the march itself is somewhat provocative, I think that there is a justification for it. The article states:

More than 1,000 people are planning to go on the march, which is being organized by a group representing victims of republican terrorism

So, by all means, turn up in your green shirts, but only if you're there to prove that you too are against the republican terrorism of groups like the IRA.

And loyalist terrorism as well. This is the orange order we're talking about, they're hardly innocent of violence. This sounds like a nasty, provocative thing to do and I think ninji has got the right idea but don't go for green, don't turn this into another vs. situation. Do something completely absurd and beautiful and peaceful in the face of aggression.

Geez, and at first I thought y'all were worrying about a Miami Hurricanes game.

Maybe you need one of these suits, too. Well, two of them -- the home one and the away one. Marching arm in arm.

No, no -- I'm dead serious! A Mardi Gras parade! Purple, green and gold!

Clown masks and giant papier mache heads!

Grant.. the yinyang. smashing!

I hear what you are saying about not using a green side to show up the orange side. Everyone should wear white. Thats the peace colour right? Or would the loyalists think we're surrendering?! Tie-dye multi-coloured def the way to go.

The whole thing is a daft idea. The flying under the flag of victims of terrorists doesn't wash at all. If that where the true honest reason then it should be organised all over the country on the same day. A nationwide celebration of anti-terrorism. Now THAT would be something.

Anyone here going? It's on at 9am.
On one hand I couldn't be bothered. One the other.. it'll be the first of it's kind in a long long time so should grab the camera for the records sake.

Loyalist terrorism as well, Nina. It slipped my mind, and of course shouldn't have. According to RTÉ's site, the march doesn't start until 12:30pm, Ninji. Don't forget to bring your purple!

Is it on today? Tomorrow?

I shouldn't think I'd attend but if I'm down that way for any reason it might be worth a look just for the spectacle of it all.

Apparently and unsuprisingly there has been a bit of violence at this. Can anyone confirm what's going on? Also Continuity IRA bomb threats?

Just saw some of this on the news. Some fire, cops in riot gear, scuffling, no deaths as far as I know.
