do you ever dream of being a disembodied voice for millions? of sharing your record collection with the like-minded radio owning public of your homeland? of interviewing your heroes for all to hear? of having a platform for your very own twisted world view? or of showing your mad steel-wheel skills? or maybe you want a call in show you can insult the intelligence of everyone dumb enough to try calling?
do you want sidekicks? are they for you to abuse? to rely on? or both?

are you john peel?
or howard stern?

there are so many forms an audio feed can take, and now that we have explicit podcasts, you can even swear the granny out of your chosen field.
perhaps you just want to make a politics and philosophy show for virtuoso profaniteers? or a lover's self-help broadcast with 'doctor fuck'?

if you had the budget (or perhaps if you didnt) what would you include in your show?

and finally...
why havent you done it yet?

I'm really warming up to podcasting, after finding a few that I enjoy listening to regularly.

why havent you done it yet?

Because these guys are doing it already.

you wouldnt have a half hour poetry reading slot, then?
or a drive time rock show?
or a graveyard shift talk show?

you can be anyone you want to be on radio fantasy!

I don't understand computers.

It would probably be some old punk rock stuff no one cared about and random comics read in a goofy voice with some guy plucking on a bass guitar in the back.

I've been enjoying Cardplayer's The Circuit where they talk about all things poker.

Now I've got my imagination back, I'd love to do a podcast of warm, lovely electronica. Lots of Brian Eno. Maybe interspersed with odd stories, like a somewhat Fortean Home Truths, or interesting ideas that are mulled over gently.

It would be like a Sunday afternoon where you don't have to go to work on Monday.

My fantasy station plays spooky folk music, broadcast over the radio from an unknown source, with no announcers or anything, just longish periods of silence and short wave woo-woo noises or animal sounds between each track.

No, wait, I would like to have speech in between occasionally, but heavily distorted and/or in some unknown language, and sounding like it's coming from an outside source, rather than a studio. Yes! Live from a field or forest.

Like 'the numbers lady', you'd never know exactly what frequency it would be broadcast on, or what time exactly, but you'd know it when you found it. It would have to come through analog radio, I think, in order for it to feel like you'd stumbled apon something real, other-worldly and primitive, rather than something clever created on a PC.

[BBC Announcer: "That was a slightly re-jigged version of a post first heard in the Music forum"]
