Meditation and Drifting Consciousness Levels

So, I often meditate lying down. I know this a no-no in many peoples' books, due to the ease of falling asleep, but I find the drifting in and out of sleep/meditative state to be really interesting. There's a certain level of consciousness I reach often after immediately drifting out when I feel entirely awake, yet my mind is pristinely clear, and my body feels still asleep. Does anyone have any insight into these levels, or any types of practices that fit with certain levels?

got the same experiecies as you. feels lik eit could be a bit closer to shamanic experiences... i think you shouldnt pay too much tim eon what them book say as long as you find a way that works for you. i usualy dont lay down in my bed when meditating i use the floor. I find it good to to it in some kind of "another state of mind" ... just find your eway of doing it... as long as it works for you, youre doing it right. but i think it is a good thing to know the traditional way so you can say its not for you and actualy know hwt youre talking about.

Trial and error.
