New Balance manufacture vegan trainers & running shoes in the UK. The main alternative to over priced brand name shoes made in sweatshops in the developing world. Available in some high street retailers, usually running specialists.

I'd like to draw everyone's attention to GreenKnickers. May you have many happy hours of surreal browsing.

Do we have a boycott thread? Kind of the opposite of this where we can share why not to buy from X?

I don't think so, though I'm tempted to boycott GreenKnickers on the basis of their "eat organic" pants.

I'd appreciate it if one was started. I often worry if the boycotts I'm part of (or indeed not part of) are based on outdated information*, and it would be good to have a point to make othe 'lithers more aware of developments in these areas.

* given a boycott which lasts after an organisation changes its behaviour, is almost as bad as not boycotting in the first place. Boycotts should include carrots as well as sticks, after all.

I'm going on holiday and have been told to take biodegradable toiletries. Any suggestions of where I can buy such things or what are good brands?

It's US-only at the moment, but LocalHarvest helps you find local organic farms and farmers' markets and has lots of information about how eating local food benefits the environment and the local economy. Stop getting your food from halfway around the globe!
