Strange and Unusual Audio

I'm working on a musical project that involves a lot of found sound, but I am also interested in finding strange audio content on the internet as well: bizarre monologues and testimonies, strange religious services, rants and raves, unusual lectures, etc. to integrate in. Does anybody know of any hot spots for content like this, or how one might go about locating anything?

Thanks much!

Damn, there was something here a while back. For a while in the late 80s (i think) there was a toll free number advertised around New York (i think) where you could call and make a confession to an answering machine. The MP3s were linked by someone here years ago, with some digging you might find them.

There's a fair bit of material on the audio section of archive.org for starters - spoken word, poetry (original and otherwise), political speeches, and a chunk of of music too for that matter. It can take some digging through, but you might be able to find something of use on there, though nothing too peculiar I would think.

I believe the British Library has an audio archive... and here is part of it pertaining to weird British accents...

There was a flexi-disc given away on the cover of The Unexplained magazine that was of EVP recordings. If you're interested, I have an MP3 version. It's certainly interesting and strange. I can email them if you PM me your address.

ECBrown has a huge amount of MP3 links. Down the bottom of the page there is a non-music section. Notable is the Christopher Recordings - intended to assist God-fearing parents in the delicate task of relating the birds and bees to their brood. Produced in the late 1940's, these include great little flashes of a bygone age, like a reference to the eldest son blasting his Cab Calloway records in his room.
Other classics are to be found in the Unusual and Homemade Instruments and Eccentrics/Oddities

Hope this helps

Good luck
