From Deoxy.org: The seventh brain kicks into action when the nervous system begins to receive signals from WITHIN THE INDIVIDUAL NEURON, from the DNA-RNA dialogue. The first to achieve this mutation spoke of "memories of past lives," "reincarnation," "immortality," etc. That these adepts were recording something real is indicated by the fact that many of them (especially Hindu and Sufis) gave marvelously accurately poetic vistas of evolution 1,000 or 2,000 years before Darwin, and foresaw Superhumanity before Nietzsche.

I'm interested in tracking down these "poetic vistas of evolution", anyone know anything more?

Erm, not to be a spoilsport or anything, but it sounds like balderdash on all levels to me. On the evolution and biology level obviously, but also on the Hindus and Sufis level. However, I'm not a specialist in Eastern religions, so maybe I just missed something.

Yeah, I was wondering if there wasn't a bit of appropriation going on there.

Going from memory because I'm too lazy to get up and get books off the shelf: there's a lot of crap written by some modern Hindu who claim that the very oblique referenes in the Vedas prophesy modern technolgy, the atomic age etc. Most academic Indologists dispute these claimes to say the least. Not exactly what you're talking about, but I'd file these claims in the same place: the bin.

Actually, re-reading the quote it just sounds like a Tim Leary rehash, from his eight circuits theory. Not to say that something interesting doesn't happen when you ingest psychedelics but I'd take unsubstanitated "visions" with a pinch of salt.

That's because you are a slave to the concensus reality. Wake up, man! Escape your reality tunnel!

Yes, it does sound like someone is quoting Leary´s theory (As Wilson often did in his books).

Leary´s theory in full can be found in Exo-Psychology, a manual on the use of the human nervous system according to the instructions of the manufacturers.

It's definitely a Leary-based quote. Hmm. I dunno. Verrry broadly, most religions talk about ascending to heaven, an above and a below, etcetera- which could be taken as referring to an evolution to a heightened state of conciousness- which I'm certain that we will acheive, but only as "we", as in, no sitting in ivory towers whingeing about the sheeple.
