Who's seen this and wants to comment? Did you think the film was better or worse than the play? This may seem like a sparse first post but I'm trying to see what angles other people took on it.

Haven't seen the play, but greatly enjoyed the film. It's Morrissey's favouritest film evar!1!, though, and consequently difficult to watch without at least some awareness of all the lines he's cribbed and adapted for Smiths lyrics.

Yeah. The tragedy of the story's so touching- the way it goes from girl and mother living tgether, to the girl getting her "taste of honey"- freedom- but it all comes crashing back down and they end up where they started.

The mother's particularly good in the film- totally abusive onem inute and then entirely vulnerable the next. Particularly liked it when Geoff started giving her a talking to.
