Why's bittorrent comics so hard?

Is there a reason you have to download a million comics at a time? Sometimes I just wanna read an issue of something but it seems every download is like all the comics that came out for the week or a compilation of twenty or so.

I'm not sure - I'd say that its a combination of individual comics being to small and there being to little demand for them... bittorrent needs lots of people sharing the same file to work well and if you bundle an entire week's worth of comics together and force comic readers to dwnload all of them, that file is going to ensure availability of all the comics as opposed to the few most popular....

I used Azureus to download the third part of BBC3s Casanova, after my video failed to record the sound on the final part.

It allowed me to cancel downloading parts 1 and 2.

That is also possible but it's a real pain to deselect hundreds of comics if you only want, say three, and while you are doing that it is possible that pieces of the ones you down't want will have already been downloaded...

I'm using BitLord, but most BT clients (Azureus, ButComet) will allow you to selectively download. Helps keep the drive free of Wizard and suchlike.

try eMule for singles, Jack. has the same things DC++ does, plus doesn't require gigantic shared folders to prevent being kicked from the system. also, sometimes Soulseek has some comics, but not much.

Soulseek's actually not that bad for comics. It's probably not that great for older comics, but for ones from the last few years, it's pretty decent. It might take a bit of perseverance to find what you're after, but there's a lot of stuff there.

Speaking of Bittorents, what do you guys download? I like to get trades, but I feel so left out of the comic discussion here because of that, and I've yet to find my local comic shop in my new city. Also, iffy things like Testament where opinion seems to be about 50/50, I would think bittorrent would be a good way to try something out.

trades are usually not scanned and shared, as it most likely destroys the spine. that's why you won't find most American edition GNs that easily, unless it's a well-put-together hardcover that stays opened on a table - without losing any pages...

What I meant to say was that I like to buy trades in real life, not download them.

I generally download occasional old back issues, which I generally wouldn't buy unless the whole run was available and cheap.

I also download some of the latest comics if there is a danger of online spoilers, before I pick them up on my monthlyish comicshop trips.

Sometimes I'll download something if I hear good things about it, before deciding whether to buy or not. It's my equivalent of flicking through it in the shop.

I would download things like Flex Mentallo, or Moore's Miracleman, things I could not get without a great deal of money. Since I started downloading comics, the amount of money I spent on real comics has gone up exponentially.

I found a torrent on torrentspy.net which is the bulk of GMs stuff for DC until Vinamarama (uh, spelling?) #1

of course there is like, 1 guy sharing it, and I own most of it, mostly after Flex and KYB.

Demonoid has quite a lot of comics, including DCP monthly packs of single issues of various current runs which might be handy for someone looking to find a series to get into. And there's also http://zcultfm.com/~comic/. As for the trouble somone else seemed to allude to earlier in the thread about picking single issues out of mammoth torrents, most client support the usual Shift + click Windows convention for multiple file selection. So you can set the entire lot to "Do Not Download" in one feel swoop then just pick your individual issues to be downloaded if that's any use.
