Accept nothing that is unreasonable, discard nothing as unreasonable without proper examination - Buddha

The pulse of time passing is noticed, experienced and measured by my intention to avoid becoming entangled in the causation or perpetuation of suffering. If this is not the instrument used to quantify that experience, then the only other available option is the satisfaction of appetites, predicated on arbitrary egoic discrimination. Another way of saying 'the pulse of time passing' is 'the aim of my life' - Me

An apple a day keeps the doctor away - Anon

It is, of course, possible to argue that it was extremely hubristic of me to place my own little nugget next to that of the Buddha. But, in another argument, not at all. The words themselves, and especially the meaning behind them, had absolutely nothing to do with me.

Come and join the party! Aphorisms That Made This Manifestation Great! We can run it like the Music forum thread! Let's go! A place for the Tempular minded to mingle with teachings. There's a little bar, some beautiful etheral lighting (a northern lights display in the ceiling), fine things and shelves full of books. Incense is buring and being circulated by robed friends. Pull up an appropriately elaborate chair, with just the right carvings in the woodwork, and we can shoot the breeze, as it were.

Just me again. I seem to have aknack for these threads.

'If you do not pause to, at the very least, chuckle to yourself, if not actually collapse in a heap of hysterical laughter, at least every ten minutes, then you are completely failing to grasp the enormity and specific hilarity of your basic predicament' - Not sure, but I really like this. Useful to keep.

The truth is that life is hard and dangerous;
that those who seek their own happiness do not find it;
that those who are weak must suffer;
that those who demand love will be disappointed;
that those who are greedy will not be fed;
that those who seek peace will find strife;
that truth is only for the brave;
that joy is only for those who do not fear to be alone;
that life is only for those who are not afraid to die.

Each member of my family has thought one valuable lesson I shal carry for the rest of my life:

"Other people's mistakes do not justify ours" (Dad)

"It's better to regret what we have done than what we have not done" (Mom)

"When in doubt, step on it" (Bro - it was originally a driving advice, but I found it can be applied to almost every situation)

and the best of all:

"Try and wise up, damn it!" (Sis)

that's it...

The Flaming Lips - Do you realise?

Do You Realize - that you have the most beautiful face
Do You Realize - we're floating in space -
Do You Realize - that happiness makes you cry
Do You Realize - that everyone you know someday will die

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Do You Realize - Oh - Oh - Oh
Do You Realize - that everyone you know
Someday will die -

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Do You Realize - that you have the most beautiful face
Do You Realize

... such a beautiful song. I cried the first time I heard it. It still makes me teary just reading the lyrics.

Truth! Certainty! That in which there is no doubt! That which is above is from that which is below, and that which is below is from that which is above, working the miracles of one.
Hermes Trismegistus

or this version-
"1) This is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth:-
2) As below, so above; and as above so below. With this knowledge alone you may work miracles."

If the world hates you, know that it hated me first.

Gospel of John 15:18

He saith unto him the third time, Simon, [son] of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Gospel of John 21:17

Thirty spokes share the wheel's hub;
It is the center hole that makes it useful.
Shape clay into a vessel;
It is the space within that makes it useful.
Cut doors and windows for a room;
It is the holes which make it useful.
Therefore profit comes from what is there;
Usefulness from what is not there.

Tao te Ching, chp. 11

Tiger got to hunt
Bird got to fly
Man got to ask himself "why, why, why?"

Tiger got to sleep
Bird got to land
Man got to tell himself "I understand"
