Detroit Riots [PICS]

So, today Ford announced it was going to be start laying off 30,000 workers. And in two weeks, the Super Bowl is going to be played in Detroit's Ford Field.

Some team is going to win, as happens every year, and the other team is going to lose.

And you can't spell Detroit without a riot! Super Bowl riots are sort of customary wherever you are (even playoff riots are par for the course), but now, Motor City's got that simmering undercurrent of hostility and despair. Will it get crazy?

Crazy how? And how crazy?

I imagine things will get burnt.

Go Seahawks!

Both teams suck doo-doo cakes. Steelers just because Bettis seems like a nice guy about to retire.

From the article:

DETROIT -- They have no idea what is about to hit them.

hahahahaha yeah we're the ones who need to watch out. Those crazy out-of-towners might wreak all our nice stuff.

People are excited about all the money the Superbowl is bringing (Detroit is several million dollars in the hole). The city is something of an embarrassment to everyone and if all goes well it might help Detroit's image. There have even been rumors of "Real World: Detroit", but I refuse to take them seriously.

I'm a good fifteen miles from Detroit now but I was there when the Pistons won the championship and things didn't get too out of hand. I wouldn't be surprised if things go smoothly. Yes, people will get robbed, but that's just Detroit saying "I appreciate you stopping by".

Maybe there will even be some dogs that have to be killed - strictly in self defense, like.

Fifteen miles? TG, I'm fifteen miles out of Detroit, and I work downtown.

I'm not sure what your point is.

Fortunately for me, there is a thread just for this very topic--what's that? You've read it? Ah.

I'm ready.

To run like hell.

Just surprised there's someone else in Michigan here. But I think I may have corresponded with you previously about that.

Any good, and cheap, hotels near the bowl in Detroit? I already missed Paris's riots, can't miss that one too...

if you want to keep it real you should camp out. nothing says "include me!" like sleeping on cardboard in front of a starbucks.

Neither option is feasible really. You'll be indistinguishable from the actual homeless and there are no cheap hotels that i'd trust south of 12 Mile and west of Haggerty. I'd take you in, but I'll be in SanFran over Superbowl XL weekend.

Yeah, come on up.

Better leave your car at home, though.

I like how I can say to myself "Detroit, how will you embarrass yourself this time?" and get a prompt reply.

No riots, Seahawks got their ass handed to them, good guy Jerome Bettis gets superbowl ring.

One for the thumb.

One of my German aunts was visiting my mother over the weekend. Apparently, she was quite puzzled when she went to Sunday Mass and there were several prayers for safety in Detroit during the Super Bowl.

I'm not convinced there wasn't some kind of cover-up.
